Yoga Study Travel in Three Countries: My Food, Prayer and Love

Many people must have seen the movie "Eat, Pray, Love". The heroine searches for herself in three different countries: Italy, India, and Indonesia (if you like it, you can check it out). Although I like this movie very much and have watched it several times, it was not deliberately arranged. From August to the end of November 2017, I traveled to three countries, Sri Lanka, India, and Indonesia, in three and a half months, completing my own journey. My Eat, Pray & Love journey.

In these three countries, I have experienced and learned yoga. Before setting off, I searched for information on the Internet, but there was a lack of information about this area, so I would like to share my experience with you, hoping to help you who also love yoga and travel.

"Traveling alone,

makes people lonely and tired

but it is also free and adventurous"

Sri Lanka was not originally for me The planned yoga learning place is purely for travel. When I arrived in Mirissa and walked to the beach, I accidentally discovered two places to learn yoga. One was a temple on the mountain. It cost 1800Rs (about 80 yuan) for two hours. A young male teacher from Sri Lanka taught. I only took one class at this school, and I didn’t feel particularly good. The teacher seemed to just copy and paste what he had learned and pass the time in a hurry. I have never been there again, but maybe everyone will have different feelings and want to participate. You can go to the beach. Sometimes someone will put up a billboard there to recruit students and lead students there.

The other place is in a hotel called Surf & Yoga, 1500Rs (about 65 yuan) an hour, taught by European and American teachers. Because I was a little disappointed with the first one, I have never experienced the other one, so I can't give any reference experience. Fortunately, I got a free yoga mat from the first one. After staying in Mirissa for half a month, I practiced by myself in the hotel.

I recommend a hotel called "Sun and Tree" in Mirissa. The owner is very nice and the breakfast is great. On the road from this hotel to the seaside, if you look carefully, you can find these two yoga learning places.

I highly recommend eating yogurt and coconut when I go to Sri Lanka. They are delicious and cheap.

No matter you Whatever happens in your life,

accept it completely,

and be grateful for it”

Rishikesh, India, is a sacred place for yoga. There are indeed many good teachers. Before I went there, I was lucky enough to meet a girl who had been studying yoga in Rishikesh for several years. She generously recommended some good teachers and accommodation. , without taking too many detours. Based on the month I spent studying there, I would like to give you an overview of Rishikesh.

?First of all, I want to say that India is not as scary as people think. Don’t look at it with prejudice. But no matter where you go, it’s important to be cautious, and I’ve also encountered some top-notch scammers in Delhi. However, it is a fact that India is dirty. Cows are free to walk and poop anywhere. The environment is certainly not as comfortable as in China. If you want to study there, you must be mentally prepared for this.

?There are also a lot of monkeys in Rishikesh. You have to hide them in your bags when buying vegetables and fruits, otherwise you have to be careful of being "robbed". Several times monkeys came into our room to look for food and eat openly.

? Back to the topic, in Rishikesh, the main yoga schools are Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga, Hatha Yoga... If you want to learn Yin Yoga, Aerial Yoga, etc., please go here Bali.

?I mainly take classes from two teachers. One is Ashish, who teaches Iyengar yoga. It is said that his brother is very famous, but he lives abroad all year round. Ashish is a very casual person. A sexy but very creative teacher with a wild approach, highly recommended. A class costs 20 RMB and lasts from 1 and a half to 2 hours. His classroom is located in a green hotel. Google is not as effective as your mouth in a small place like Rishikesh. Ask many people and most people will be able to point it out to you accurately. Another teacher is Surrender, a bearded teacher who teaches Hatha Yoga. He is a very steady teacher. He will pray before every class. After the class, he will talk about some philosophical things. He also knows how to encourage students with gestures. 20 A class lasts from 1 and a half to 2 hours. Very recommended. There are also some teachers who I haven’t had time to experience in class, but they are either very famous in the local area or have a good reputation. One is Usha. She is Swiss but has been living in Rishikesh teaching Iyengar Yoga. It is said that she is very strict and many people do not like her classes. In addition, her students teach beginner classes, which is also very good. They teach at Omkarananda patanjala, and I have to say that the receptionist's attitude was very bad. We just walked away and left, so we didn't experience usha's class. In terms of price, one class will be a bit expensive, but it is usually more cost-effective to buy it once a week.

?There is also a teacher named Kamal who teaches Ashtanga Yoga, but Bishop TTC, this teacher has become very commercial. I have never attended classes. I can see his advertisements when I go to the river. .

?The above are the better teachers in Rishikesh. Once I went to the library to buy books, the boss would talk about the good teachers in Rishikesh, and these people were all on the list. I have some teachers’ WeChat accounts and can add my recommended business cards to you.

Finally, there is a mysterious teacher who was mentioned by our Portuguese friend after leaving Rishikesh. He is old, but he is like an enlightened sage who not only teaches yoga, but also meditation. , under his teaching, my friend made great progress. However, when he left, the teacher was involved in a car accident, but despite this, he helped rescue several people. Although the injury was serious, when the students visited him, he still smiled and looked relaxed. I hope I can visit this master next time I go to Rishikesh.

There are two bridges in Rishikesh. Most of these teachers are on the Ram jhula bridge. It is recommended to choose accommodation over there.

?Recommend two accommodations that are cheap and have a good local environment (this is what we concluded after a few days of wandering). One is called Sudesh guest house and the other is called Anada guest house. It's hard to find, you have to ask people, it's in the alley. We stayed in Sudesh, a double room cost 60 RMB, the two of us split 30 RMB per person per night, and a single room cost around 40 RMB. There is a restaurant near these two hotels, it seems to be called oasis cafe. The vegetable sizzler is delicious. Every time I go to their restaurant, I always order this and almost vomit. There is also an ayuverdic cafe with delicious musli in another alley.

”In Bali, I rode a motorcycle, sunbathed, jumped in the waves, wore a bikini, and went to a bar... Before I left and headed back to Australia, I also caught up with the volcano that occurs in Bali once every 50 years. After the eruption, I was stranded at the airport and slept for two days. "

In Bali, I mainly stayed in Ubud because I lived close to Radiantly Alive, so I studied there. The environment is not bad, the classroom is in a large bamboo forest room, and there are lush trees outside the window. You can come into contact with many schools of yoga, such as aerial yoga, flow yoga, Ashtanga, Hatha yoga, Yin yoga... There are some teachers who are pretty good, but they are unlikely to be as effective one-on-one as the Indian teachers. Guidance. The price is about 10 US dollars per class. I chose the unlimited card for one week, which cost 420 RMB per week. I usually go to 2-3 classes every day. One class lasts 1 and a half hours. In addition, the yoga barn in Ubud is also very famous, but I have never tried it.

If you go to Canggu for surfing, there is also a yoga school there. There was a restaurant I wanted to experience before, but I didn’t go there and forgot the name.

?Comparing these three countries, I personally think that India, as the birthplace of yoga, is still the most suitable for learning, with cheaper prices and more teachers. The environment in Bali is better. Like India, there are many Europeans and Americans who live there all year round and study yoga. Of course, since these countries all teach in English, it is best to have a little basic knowledge of English. At least you should be familiar with English vocabulary related to yoga.
