Huge rose-shaped corals were found deep off the coast of Tahiti.

Divers from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) found a huge rose-shaped coral reef off the coast of Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia in the South Pacific. Coral reefs are in a "primitive" state, and despite the recent coral bleaching in this area, it still maintains amazing health.

The newly discovered unnamed coral reef is about 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) long and 98 to 2 13 feet (30 to 65 meters) wide. It is located between 100 and 180 feet (3 1 to 55 meters) below the surface, which is very deep for tropical coral reefs and may protect them from climate change.

Divers of the submarine exploration project Ocean 1 first discovered the reef on 20211. Alexis Rosenfeld, the underwater photographer and founder of Ocean, said in a statement: "It's amazing to see the huge and beautiful rose coral endless." This project is jointly carried out by UNESCO. "It's like a work of art."
