This short drama explores the secret world of microscopic plankton.

These creatures can appear in the form of aliens and play a vital role on our planet. They are divided into two categories, phytoplankton (plants) and zooplankton (animals). Phytoplankton accounts for half of the earth's photosynthesis, making it one of the largest oxygen producers in the world. Zooplankton is an important food source for many marine life, including whales.

However, despite the importance of plankton, there are still many unknowns. In order to solve the mystery, Van Aiken photographed these fascinating creatures under the microscope and recorded all their fascinating details. The result is a 15 minute short film "Plankton". The unforgettable sound works created by Norwegian artist Jana Winderen, these images are presented without narration.

In this way, Van Icahn let plankton speak for themselves. Their slow movements and complicated forms occupy the center stage, because the audience can see things that are usually invisible.
