There are two universities in Ankang, namely Ankang College and Ankang Vocational and Technical College.

Ankang College is the only provincial full-time undergraduate college in Ankang City, Shaanxi Province. Established by Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Ankang Municipal Government, its main task is to cultivate applied talents with high comprehensive quality and innovative spirit.

The college is one of the first members of the education and training program for outstanding agricultural and forestry talents and one of the members of the Hanjiang River Basin University Alliance. We have the right to award bachelor's degrees and jointly train master's and doctoral students with many universities. Formerly known as Ankang College, it was founded in 1958 and closed in 1963 due to national economic difficulties.

1978 re-established "Ankang Professional Course of Shaanxi Normal University", 1984 was renamed "Ankang Normal University" with the approval of Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In 2004, the former Ankang Education College and Shaanxi Ankang Agricultural School merged into Ankang Normal College, and was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education in February 2006.

The college was established in 1905. In 2004, it was formed by the merger of the original Ankang Health School, Ankang Normal School, Ankang No.2 Normal School and Ankang Vocational Secondary School.
