How to set up a camera just after playing photography
Rule 1- photo format and size-
Generally speaking, it is best to use large-size and high-quality JPG combined with DNG (Leica RAW format) as the default storage format. DNG is used for filing and sorting, and its post-processing ability is much higher than JPG's, and it is used for batch processing and rapid plotting.
Adjust DNG files before and after exposure.

Take q as an example. The photo storage formats are JPG, DNGJPG, DNG and JPG pixels, and you can adjust them according to your needs. 24/ 15/8M is the dimension with the highest accuracy, and1.7/1.1/0.5m is the dimension with the lowest accuracy, corresponding to the dimension of 28/35/50 viewing angle.

In general, we will choose the option with larger size and better image quality, but in some cases, you can choose small and medium-sized jpg. For example, when shooting sports materials, news and other subjects that need a lot of shooting and rapid processing by cameras, small and medium-sized jpg is more dominant. First, these themes do not have high requirements for image quality; Second, they can shorten the time for the camera to process data; Third, your memory card won't fill up too quickly.
Think about chasing children and shooting wildly. If you still use DNGJPG, I am afraid that the memory card will not be enough soon!

Rule 2- White Balance-
I often meet friends and ask me: Why do my photos turn yellow, especially indoors?
This is because in indoor lighting, the color temperature is often warm (of course, some lamps are cold). As can be seen from the figure below, the white balance of the picture changes greatly with the color temperature (the color temperature in the figure below refers to the adjustment value in Lightroom).
Yu Junfeng, Leica Orson Park Experience Center, shooting equipment: Leica M 1035/ 1.4, ISO800 1/350.
At this time, the automatic white balance of the camera is awkward, and people will turn yellow and look ugly. What should I do at this time? You need to use a custom white balance.
Strictly speaking, you should actually use 18 degree gray card. Of course, we can use a piece of A4 white paper instead, which is very convenient to use. We need to find the white balance setting in the camera menu, select the custom white balance or gray balance card, and then tell the camera "This is white!" " "Then the camera will obediently display the correct color temperature according to your instructions.
Find the option to customize the white balance (the name in the menu of different machines is different, and the name in Q is gray balance card)
Enter this setting to shoot A4 white paper, and then half press the shutter to return to the shooting state for shooting.
However, it should be noted that after shooting a scene, the white balance should be adjusted back to automatic, otherwise the color temperature will be weird when shooting the next scene.
Rule 3- Sensitivity-
Generally speaking, it is not necessary to adjust the sensitivity setting frequently in the same scene. The specific adjustment of parameters still depends on the actual situation. For example, when sweeping the street, I usually set the aperture to f/8, and then the ISO is generally set to 400. To capture a "still" moment in the street, generally speaking, the shutter should be at least 1/250 seconds.
Leica q tunes ISO
Of course, you can also choose ISO 100 or 200, but there is a reason to choose 400. If it is not sunny, ISO400 can ensure that you can have a faster shutter speed even in a small aperture. And now the high sensitivity performance of digital cameras is quite good.

Rule 4- Measurement Mode-
There are many kinds of metering methods, such as spot metering, center focusing metering and multi-zone metering.
Spot metering is aimed at a small area, accounting for only 1~5% of the whole screen. Spot metering is the favorite metering mode for advanced players, because it can shoot more challenging topics, such as photos of Gao Fancha (like portraits with big backlight), or stage photos, sports photos, close-ups and so on.
Central focus metering is the most widely used metering mode, and most cameras use central focus metering as the default metering mode. This metering method is suitable for most subjects, because it focuses on about 60% of the central area of the picture, taking into account the edge of the picture. For example, photos of the central theme, personal travel photos, landscape photos and so on. This measurement method can be used.
Multi-area photometry means that the camera measures the light of each area in the picture separately. It is widely used in various scenes from landscapes to snapshots to measure the overall brightness of the picture on average. It is suitable for shooting large scenes or group photos, and the best effect is to shoot scenes with relatively positive light sources and uniform illumination.

Rule 5- Focus Mode-
There are two focusing modes: camera automatic focusing mode and photographer manual focusing mode. Some Leica cameras have a peak focusing function to assist manual focusing.
There is an "auxiliary manual focusing" option in the Leica Q menu.
The emphasis here is on peak focusing. When the peak focus appears, the focus area will be highlighted. Peak focusing is a highly accurate focusing state. Usually we will set its display color to red, or we can change it according to our own preferences.
Leica M240, M-P, M 10, Leica Q, SL, TL2, etc. Both of them have adjustable peak focusing function. This focusing method is especially useful when shooting at night and focusing with large aperture. Focusing on the macula is much easier than focusing on the paraxial viewfinder.
Leica TL2 Peak Focus
There are also cases like S 1 and TL2. When the M lens is switched, we will focus on the peak. In addition, the M lens plus macro switching ring can only be shot with screen shots. At this time, peak focusing is the best choice.
Leica M-P with macro adapter, shooting with peak focus.
Rule 6- Exposure Mode-
Aperture priority (A), shutter priority (S) and full manual mode (M) are the three most commonly used exposure modes.
Generally speaking, when shooting portraits with large aperture and sweeping the street, I will choose the aperture first, because at this time we need a relatively established aperture value-large aperture shallow depth of field and small aperture sweeping the street. Aperture priority allows us to control the depth of field ourselves.
Aperture priority: the aperture is set to a specific value and the shutter is set to a certain position.
Shutter priority: the aperture is set to one position and the shutter is set to a specific value.
Shutter priority mode is convenient to control the dynamic performance of the picture; When we shoot scenes with fixed parameters or need stable exposure (such as shooting long exposure, shooting car tracks and star tracks), M file is more suitable.
Sometimes the camera can't correctly judge the exposure I want. For example, if the light ratio is too large, the camera's metering is easy to be inaccurate. At this time, you can also use M file to control exposure.
M: The aperture shutter is manually controlled.
When you play photography for the first time, remember that the main purpose of using the camera is to take good photos and realize our shooting intention, not to make people feel that "you are really awesome" and use manual mode to force them.
Of course, if you are willing to explore slowly in full manual mode, I believe you will be familiar with the camera faster. If you encounter problems in the process of using the camera, you can write a private letter in the background, and we will try our best to help you answer them ~
