Shaoguan Airport will be transformed from the existing Guitou Airport. Guitou Airport is located in Guitou Town, Ruyuan County, northwest of Shaoguan City. It is an air force second-class airport, built at 1970. The airport is 30 kilometers away from Shaoguan city and 28 kilometers away from Lechang city. 1986, the airport was approved by the General Staff as a temporary landing point for civil aviation in China, and passenger and cargo transport routes from Shaoguan to Guangzhou were opened.
