Main work

When my father was a teenager, northern Shaanxi began to make trouble, and my father ran out to make trouble and engage in revolution. In the ancestral home column of various forms, Hui Huaijie always fills in the word northern Shaanxi. Since the early 1990s, Hui Huaijie has held more than 20 solo exhibitions in China, Beijing, Xi, Taiwan Province, Japan, France, the United States, Australia and other countries and regions, and published selected works such as Aesthetics and Culture, Hukou of the Yellow River, Scenery of the Yellow River, Loess Sky, Hukou Waterfall of the Yellow River and Loess Plateau in Western China.

Personal experience

create

1June 999 18, Comrade Jiang Zemin of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee issued the call of "Rebuilding a Great Northwest with Beautiful Mountains and Rivers" in Hukou of the Yellow River, and the western development officially kicked off. Hui Huaijie, a famous photographer in China, with professional sensitivity and the feelings of the sons and daughters of the Yellow River, crossed the Yellow River basin for more than 30,000 kilometers from July, 2002 1999, and photographed the whole Yellow River basin from the ground and the air, which recorded and showed the whole picture of the Yellow River most directly and objectively since the western development. Hui Huaijie's large-scale photographic art exhibition "Protecting Mother River" jointly sponsored by the Environmental Protection Committee of the National People's Congress, the Municipal Human Resources Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the State Environmental Protection Administration and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government was held in the Beijing Revolutionary Museum. At the opening ceremony, a symphony orchestra will be organized to perform the Yellow River Chorus Symphony. After the first exhibition, it will be exhibited in Vienna, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul and other places, and will also be exhibited in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Kunming and nine provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in the Yellow River Basin. The 65,438+000 photographs on display in this exhibition are all by Hui Huaijie. It is not difficult to imagine that in the symphony of large-scale pictures and sounds, the mystery, grandeur and magnificence of the Yellow River are intertwined. It can really be earth-shattering and make people cry!

represent

Some critics divide China landscape photographers into artistic conception school and realistic school. The early representatives of Artistic Conception School were Wang Miao and Chen Changfen, who emphasized poetry, while Chen Fuli and Lang Jingshan emphasized painting. Realism is subdivided into realism and neo-realism. The former is represented by Zhu Xianmin and Li Yuan, while the latter is represented by Hui Huaijie.

Hui Huaijie has held three photo exhibitions before: Yellow Land Series A Journey to Northern Shaanxi, Loess Sky and China Yellow River Series Hukou Waterfall. Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall and the Great Hall of the People are both collections of his huge Hukou Waterfall. Hukou Waterfall Album was published in1May 1996, and Loess Paradise Album was also published in1May 1997.

achievement

Spiritual demeanor

Jiang Zemin1June 1999 18 visited northern Shaanxi and was very satisfied with Hui Huaijie's works. He happily wrote the characters "Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River" and signed his works. The former governor of Shaanxi Province locked in Hukou to see the photos taken by Hui Huaijie for General Secretary Jiang, indicating that the works can capture both the charm of nature and the spiritual demeanor of the leaders, organically combining the majestic waterfall with the general secretary's bearing and grace, and achieved success.

Success is no accident. Hui Huaijie began to specialize in photography from 1980. Starting from 1990, the yellow river hukou was officially focused. One day, he looked into the distance through the bright window. Although it was a long distance, he still saw the waterfall landscape he was worried about, as if he saw the muddy waves of the Yellow River and heard the ten-mile vibration of the Yellow River. He looked out of the window, lost in thought, and suddenly he said, "Go to the hukou!" " "At first, my friend thought he was absent-minded or joking, but I didn't expect him to do so. He immediately packed his photographic equipment, packed his bags and set off for hukou, rain or snow, rain or shine.

When he stood on the most dangerous rock in the waterfall, his feet were covered with slippery ice cracks, which scared his friends to shout at him. Later, friends decided that he must have a pair of non-slip shoes that can support his feet. That's not enough. He had to buy a strong long rope, drive the car to the shore, and then tie one end of the rope to the off-road vehicle and the other end to Hui Huaijie's waist, but Hui Huaijie disagreed.

The friend said: others are playing photography, and you, Hui Huaijie, are fighting for your life! Fight for your life. In order to photograph the mouth of the lake, he actually hung himself in mid-air.

Every time he arrives at the hukou, he will be greatly excited and moved, but when he comes back, he will be disappointed: because he always feels that he can't grasp the key to the hukou. He didn't want to. In three or four years, he came to Hukou more than 20 times and felt it with his heart. Until now, he still feels that there is a mysterious power calling him from the spout.

honour

He once rented a plane and flew on the land in northern Shaanxi for 12 hours. Hukou 12 hour flight gave him a new understanding of Hukou. The loess plateau itself looks like a majestic person from a height, and the mountains are like human arteries, human bones and bulging muscles. However, when he flew over the Jinxia Grand Canyon and saw the Yellow River below, he was shocked: from the air, it looked like a gentle woman, lying next to a very magnificent man. Surprised, he had a new understanding of the Loess Plateau and northern Shaanxi. The milky Yellow River, flowing in the Grand Canyon between Qin Jin, is forging ahead, symbolizing an indomitable great spirit. He thinks Hukou, as the most wonderful part of the Yellow River, should inspire people and make them work hard!

Every time he goes to Hukou and passes by Huangling County, he will climb the bridge hill, light a wick incense in front of Huangling to pay homage to his father, and then make a pilgrimage to Hukou to listen to the voice of the Yellow River.

Creative style

Northern Shaanxi has the epoch-making Pangu family and Xuanyuan the Great, the ancestor of mankind, which is the starting point of Dayu's water control. Starting from 1993, he and a group of colleagues devoted themselves to the exploration of the history and culture of northern Shaanxi, and compiled and published six large-scale series, such as Historical and Cultural Library of Northern Shaanxi, Historical Volume of Northern Shaanxi, Folk Volume of Northern Shaanxi, Art Volume of Northern Shaanxi, Landscape Volume of Northern Shaanxi, Humanities Volume of Northern Shaanxi and Economic Volume of Northern Shaanxi. When he broke through the mode of folklore and portrait photography, his works appeared great, thick, restrained and tenacious. Colleagues were also shocked by his works: the unavoidable truth is heartbreaking; And the beauty that makes people cry in the works is even more fascinating and memorable. Looking at his works always reminds people of Jia Xuan and Dongpo's ci-writing, which is vigorous and intense and shocking. Taifeng Zhai, Party Secretary of Chinese Writers Association, commented on his Yellow River series photography exhibition: "In 1930s and 1940s, a group of outstanding Chinese sons and daughters wrote a The Yellow River Cantata by the Yellow River, which inspired a generation. Hui Huaijie's photos played another new chorus of the Yellow River since the reform and opening up in the 1990s, which made our mood unable to calm down. "

Hui Huaijie does not pretend to be an artist. He thinks he is just doing his duty as a descendant of the yellow land. He is determined to convey his feelings for this land to more people. So you rarely hear him talk about technical and technological issues such as photography angle, focusing, light consumption, color matching and background, contrast and hierarchy, but he talked about many people who raised him:

"I don't like the theme I will never touch it, I don't know the language, and the words will never go to see it. I also have a point, that is, you have to know the people in this place before you can understand the scenery in this place, because one side of the soil and water can support one side. " Yan 'an's small rice, pumpkin soup, Huang Chengcheng's sky, thick soil and the Yellow River in his hometown always haunt him. Therefore, when the general secretary issued that great call, as the son of the Yellow River, it was natural for him to respond quickly and go all out.

The plateau area in the upper reaches of the Yellow River is seriously short of oxygen, swamps and snowstorms, and the weather is changeable. People wear fur coats early, put on gauze at noon and eat watermelons in the stove. Sometimes I just put on my shirt and have to wear a down jacket when a snowstorm comes. Everything is normal for him. "It will be blue sky and white clouds soon." He said.

"The Yellow River is the mother river, or what some people call a harmful river? I want to shoot it with my own eyes and my own camera for everyone to comment and the audience to judge. I was deeply impressed by this shooting: the Yellow River is spectacular, but when it is cut off or flooded, it also harms Ningxia, Henan, Shandong and other places, bringing a lot of trouble to the downstream, while the upstream areas such as Qinghai and Gansu have water, but there is no green. But I think there is still hope for the Yellow River. Its source is green and its water is clear. As long as we give it real protection and care, the Yellow River is still the mother river that gives us hope. "

Evaluation of works

Look at the earth from one angle and the spirit from a macro point. Trapped in life, the disturbing secular scene has its intimate and mellow aesthetic feeling. Beyond life, the grand cosmic vision expands the space of vision and mind. Hui Huaijie, as a photographer, focuses on the beauty and momentum of mountains and rivers; Focus on nature and capture the rhythm. Send affection to the earth and stretch it in your heart. He flew over the Loess Plateau more than 30 times, photographed the mother river of the Chinese nation, and shared the spectacular, changeable and colorful scenery with everyone.

Personality assessment

Hui Huaijie's ancestral home is Zizhou, Shaanxi. This is a red land with a glorious revolutionary tradition. Huaijie's father is also an old cadre, who devoted himself to the torrent of the times as early as the agrarian revolution. Although Huaijie was born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, he returned to Yan 'an, which enjoys the reputation of "revolutionary holy land", and spent his childhood here. The life in Yan 'an left a deep impression on the young photographer's life journey. It was in Yan 'an that Huaijie began to embark on his own arduous and bumpy road of photography. The young trees grow taller and the birds grow bigger day by day. Full-fledged, he flew out of the house to explore the world beyond the mountain. The colorful world and noisy city life enriched his experience, sharpened his character and increased his talents and skills. But suddenly looking back, he felt an unspeakable loss. So he turned his eyes to the northern Shaanxi Plateau with deep affection. The root of his life is here, and the source of artistic creation is also here, which is a fertile ground for inspiring his spiritual creation. He turned the focus of his photographic art creation to northern Shaanxi, showing the magical charm of northern Shaanxi, revealing the cultural heritage of northern Shaanxi and interpreting the historical mysteries of northern Shaanxi with the most intuitive, direct and authentic appeal. Therefore, for more than ten years, whether it is sunny or snowy, Huaijie has been running around the valleys and ditches in northern Shaanxi, trying to show people the mellow and masculine beauty of northern Shaanxi from a brand-new perspective. Unremitting efforts and the pursuit of no regrets have finally yielded fruitful results.

Facing Huaijie's photographic works with the theme of northern Shaanxi, I always feel that there is a kind of publicity and explosion of life force. The bitter embarrassment of the living environment in northern Shaanxi and the enthusiastic pursuit of life by the owners of this land seem to be contradictory but organically unified. Abandoned caves between cliffs, like a pair of big eyes, staring at the bustling world of mortals. Maoliu in the sand sea, like a sword piercing the blue sky, is pregnant with the hope and expectation of the yellow land tomorrow. The vines rooted in the cracks in the rocks stubbornly show the tenacity and vitality of life. A bird's-eye view of overlapping mountains and terraces as spectacular as contour lines shows the struggle and hardship of people born in this land.

Facing Huaijie's photographic works with the theme of northern Shaanxi face to face is always like reading a heavy history textbook, feeling the heavy cultural heritage and dignified history. Put out the bonfire of wolf smoke, isolate heaven and earth, and a round of Leng Yue waning moon is embedded in the boundless sky. The orange-red land and the blue sky of the lake give people a cold and determined feeling. And when I stare at the northern Shaanxi Plateau, where thousands of valleys are eroded by ups and downs, the frozen sea is endless, and the sky shows a faint rosy glow, I seem to see the difficult and bumpy struggle of the people in northern Shaanxi for survival and liberation.
