What is a D lens and what is a G lens? What's the difference between Canon and Nikon's focusing systems?

G lens is newer than D lens. At present, Nikon's new lenses are all G-type lenses, which contain D-type functions for transmitting distance information. The only difference is that there is no aperture control ring.

At present, among Nikon's mainstream lens groups, only some old AF-S lenses and AF fixed-focus lenses are D-type, while others are G-type lenses. Old SLR will use D lens.

Nikon's official definition of G and D lenses;

AF-D Nikon introduced 1996 AF-D series lens. These lenses look similar to AF lenses, and they contain a coded microchip, which can transmit focal length information (used to enhance the accuracy of camera exposure and flash metering system) to the camera body. Cameras with advanced 3D matrix metering system need AF-D compatible lenses to make full use of this technology. All the latest Nikon autofocus lenses can transmit distance information to compatible cameras, so they are AF-D compatible, and AF-D lenses can be identified by the D mark marked on the lenses.

The AF-G AF-G lens was introduced in 2000. These lenses are similar to AF-D lenses and have the same function as AF-D lenses, except that there is no aperture ring. (Only the old Nikon SLR cameras need an aperture ring, because these cameras can't detect this information from the lens).

Af 501.8,851.41.8 are the main representatives of type D. At present, the second generation small Z guns of AF-S 50 1.4 and AF-S are all G-heads. G-type nikkor lens is easier to operate, and there will be no misoperation in theory, because there is no need to manually set the minimum aperture. This is a continuation of the plastic autofocus lens, which is suitable for photographers who almost never set the lens manually. Now Nikon has the trend of popularizing G-heads!
