The importance of photo organization

/

Let’s first talk about the way most people use to organize photos

Organize in folders

I used to This is also the case. Each folder is classified and marked with date, time, activity content or location information

In fact, folders are nothing more than classified by time or event

Therefore The folder organization method must have its shortcomings

It will produce a large number of duplicate files and take up disk space

For example, if you took a photo in Beijing and you have toned it, OK, save it. One photo, you photoshopped it again, OK, save another one, and you used this photo to compete again, OK, copy another one~

One photo may need to be repeated more than 2 times, occupying A lot of disk space

The storage is very messy and difficult to search to find the photos you need

If you suddenly want to participate in a photography competition, it is actually a good choice if you only have a few dozen photos. , but what if there are thousands of unorganized photos? It's easy to miss the best photos and get confused.

Next, we will introduce the photo organization methods we need to use

Lightroom photo organization

I just started learning photography, and I just thought it was a color correction software. After these few days of study, I found that lightroom (hereinafter referred to as LR) is a very powerful photo organizing software

lr function

In fact, lr is equivalent to putting photos into the software for display, and then directly viewing, modifying or deleting them in the software. This will be more intuitive and easier to operate than the folder organization method. The key is the following

The favorites mechanism of lr is equivalent to adding an index to the photos. It does not copy the photos. There is only one copy of the photos, so no additional disk space is required, and filtering conditions can be established in the favorites. Automatic or semi-automatic sorting greatly improves efficiency and keeps you organized!

lr’s star rating mechanism can rate your photos with stars. If you have 5-star photos, you can directly submit them to the competition. There is no need to filter them one by one, and lr has 0, There are six stars: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. You can create your own rules, such as five-star is great, one-star is passable, etc. (Photo sorting ~ will be introduced in detail below)

The folder structure of lr organized files

On the disk, a folder contains at least two sub-folders Folders, namely directories (storage of lr directory boot files) and file libraries (storage of photos imported to lr to be sorted)

Advantages of lr photo sorting

Automatic or semi-automatic intelligent sorting (self-organizing) Establish filter conditions for favorites, and automatically classify by time when importing)

Greatly save disk space, the color-corrected photos do not take up extra space (only a small photo color correction data is generated) File)

With the star rating mechanism, photos with 0 stars do not need to waste time on color correction and post-production. You can view them as needed, such as only viewing photos with 3 stars and above, which greatly improves photo processing. Efficiency

Create your own library and import photos (emphasis added!!!)

Turn on the computer and start watching and doing it~

Of course you need to install your lr on your computer

(The operation is the same for the mac version and the win version, no need Worry that the tutorial is not universal)

Open lr

Select a new directory (select the location where you want to store the photos)

Select the folder of the photos to be organized, the logic is The left side is the source, where the photos come from. In the middle, you can select the photos to be imported. Generally, all are imported. Remember to check the right side to exclude duplicate photos.

In the upper middle, you can choose the import method. Generally, select Move, of course for insurance or backup reasons, you can choose to copy

As shown in the picture, I chose to move

The photos will be moved from the original location on the disk or the SD card to the file library (you need to specify A location that you remember, preferably in the same folder as the directory)

Specify the location of the file library on the right, and choose a classification method that suits you when importing photos, as shown in the picture I chose It is organized by date, and the format is a three-layer folder structure of year/year-month/year-month-day. You can do it according to your preference

Then click Import to organize the photos into the file library.

Then wait for a while, wait for the photos to move and get the initial preview. If there are very, very many photos, this process will be very long. For example, I imported more than 1,400 photos for the first time, and the whole process lasted More than 20 minutes

After that, you need to preliminary name the folder and mark the photo events

You can just right-click the photo folder to rename

The purpose is It is convenient for you to check and you can remember what photos are under that folder at a glance

Then simply mark your works with stars

Just select the photo and press the number keys. Okay, 0~5 corresponds to different star ratings, and new photos are all 0 stars by default

I only marked the photos taken during the National Day because it is too late to learn how to organize photos. The sooner you learn how to organize photos, the fewer photos you will have. The easier it is to organize! It is recommended that students who are handy start practicing step by step~

Of course, I would also like to share such a useful tutorial. After all, many friends are still troubled by messy and disorderly photos~

Take a brief look at what it looks like after I marked it

Most of them are 0 stars, and a photo of my favorite cat is marked as five stars (enlarge it for everyone)

The next photography post-production tutorial will continue our photo organization

Teach you how to intelligently classify and rate selection

There are also some answers to some small questions about photo organization

The most important thing is to practice after reading it. Just do it~
