The difference between the Summer Resort and the Summer Palace: one pool and three mountains.

The lakes in chengde mountain resort are all dug by man. There are three islands in the center of the lake area: Ruyizhou, Yueguang Jiangsheng and Huanbi, with a long dam in the middle. The dike island separates the lake, forming the shapes of China ancient mascots "Ruyi" and "Ganoderma lucidum", which makes the image of the three islands in the lake form a "Ruyi Ganoderma lucidum" tree and adds a new artistic conception to the traditional lake island model of "one pool and three mountains". Compared with the vast water surface of Kunming Lake and Beihai, the dikes and islands in the lake area of the summer resort are scattered and quiet and deep, so Michelle Ye's poems praise "its own mountains and rivers open the North Pole, and the natural scenery is better than the West Lake."

The Summer Palace is more flexible, giving full play to the artistic charm of "one pool and three mountains". Qingyi Garden did not repeat the practice of setting up three islands on one surface. On the contrary, it divides a large Kunming Lake into three small water surfaces, namely West Lake, Shui Yang Lake and South Lake. Every water surface has an island. There is an island in West Lake, an island in Shui Yang Lake and an island in South Lake, forming a new form of "one pool and three mountains" of lakes, dikes and islands. What's more, while shaping three big islands, the Summer Palace also added three small islands on the Nanhu Lake-Zhichun Island, Xiaoxiling and Fenghuang Wharf, each with its own merits. It truly embodies China's superb and wonderful gardening art.
