How to interpret the movie "A House Without Hemp"

This is one of the most appreciated interpretations I have ever seen ~ The House without Hemp adopts interwoven contrast structure and dreamy polyphony structure, and uses Freud's "dream analysis" and Jung's "mask theory" to tell two stories, three lines and seven personality masks, showing a variety of montage clips, the intersection of dreams and reality, hypnosis, violence and sexual hints. This paper mainly analyzes the film from the structural aspect.

One, two stories

Wuyue, the core member of the popular three female idol group "Charming Birds", wanted to transform into an actress, so she began to appear in TV series under the arrangement of the firm. Ma Wei finally unbearable pressure, began to hallucinate. She kept seeing strange figures of crazy fans everywhere, and saw herself in idol groups more than once. At that time, she was pure and clean, a sunny girl with a bright smile, completely different from herself who became famous on a large scale today.

Unema was very anxious until one day she found a bloody coat in the cupboard. Unema finally collapsed, suspected that she had killed someone, and became confused about reality and dreams. She can only rely on the diary in the "Unema Department House" to remind herself of what she did and didn't do today.

Later, Ma Wei was attacked by crazy fans, who always imagined after the filming. She tried to knock him down and ran away. After waiting for a long time, I came to the United States to find her, only to find that there were no bodies of crazy fans as Ma Ma said, and there were no signs of fighting at the scene. Are these all true? Ma Wei was in a trance. When crossing the street, he was knocked down by a truck and brought home by people studying in the United States.

After waking up, Ma Wei found that this room exactly like herself was not her real home. She tried to escape in horror, only to see her dressed as herself in an American idol choir and rushed over with a knife. It turns out that everything is planned by studying in the United States. She used to be a dead idol singer. She spent all her efforts on not being numb, trying to realize her original dream by not being numb. I didn't expect that the road to numbness was getting more and more biased. Studying in the United States could not control the development of the situation and I was schizophrenic. It turned out that Yoko Takakura was originally a simple and ordinary little girl. Once she was raped while dancing striptease in a nightclub, and her personality changed, resulting in a dissociative identity disorder, that is, multiple personalities. Yoko Takakura, the original personality, has become a character in a play for her. She regards all the past events of rape as the plot of a play to get rid of it. And what she thought of herself became "others", or an actor, or Li Xiang, or even a model elder sister who was killed by herself. And all these crimes were committed by her in another personality.

In reality, the role of the transformed actor is Yoko Takakura.

Ma Wei not only became famous for rape dramas, but also took nude photos. Pure Ma Wei only stays in the "Wuma Department Store" she founded. She was dissatisfied with the change of Ma's image, so she teamed up with crazy fan ME to create a series of harassment incidents and killed the screenwriter and photographer. Sadly, however, she is getting deeper and deeper in her dual personality. She not only regards the illusory but pure hemp in the house as reality, but also regards the dirty hemp in reality as illusion and fantasizes that she is the pure hemp of that year. The original personality was completely erased, and finally she developed to the point of killing Zhenma, because in her place, Zhenma was already an obstacle to everything. She was finally sent to a mental hospital, wearing an untrimmed wig, and only occasionally could she change back to "studying in the United States."

His real identity is the security guard of the concert. In the film, his existence has two meanings, one is in vague fantasy, and the other is in the hidden clues of his communication with the United States. These two characters in different time and space perfectly overlap in Jin Min's hands in a confusing way.

First of all, on the day of Wu Ma's farewell performance, the security guard stopped a riot at the scene, and Wu Ma subconsciously regarded the security guard as his patron saint. After a series of harassment incidents, Ma Wei expects a crazy fan to protect himself. He cares about his words and deeds and shields himself from all kinds of negative news. Subconsciously, this "crazy fan" is the image of the security guard. However, when the "department house without hemp" appeared, Ma felt that crazy fans really existed, and he was afraid of such voyeurism. All kinds of uneasiness made Ma see the illusion of crazy fans again and again. The last episode was trapped in the plot, subconsciously expecting "dirty hemp" to die, so she was raped and assassinated by crazy fans in the illusion. In Ma Wei, crazy fans are illusory.

In America, under the hidden clues, crazy fans really exist. They are security guards. He may really be a "crazy fan" who is not numb, or he may just be an employment partner in the United States. Dissatisfied with the change of the horse, he joined forces to create an attack while studying in the United States in an attempt to stop the horse from "derailing". So he became an accomplice in studying in the United States, making harassing phone calls, mailing bomb letters and killing photographers and screenwriters, but he was also killed when he assassinated Tanaka.

Jin Min deliberately divided my identity into two parts, one part is a phantom and the other part is real. Two-way coincidence makes the film confusing.

Three or seven identity masks

At the beginning of the film, a stage play about "cyber police" in an empty place is a very important signal, which gives an idea in that era when computers were not popular: to protect the peace of the online world. The biggest obstacle to Ma's identity confusion comes from the home page of the online world "Ma House". At the same time, the three cyber policemen in the play are wearing masks, which makes people unable to see their true colors. This detail is just as Jin Min himself explained: This is a story about a mask. In the film, three people on Sanxian are wearing various masks, and different actions under different masks confuse other people and audiences in the play.

3. Identity Mask 2: Imagined former self, that is, a pure idol singer whose image has not been damaged.

After filming the rape scene and nude photos, Wu Ma couldn't bear the inner pressure. She hopes to reshape the pure image of the past in her fans and her own mind, but the reality is quite different from the ideal, and she is slipping further and further on the uncontrollable road. In the heart of repeated remorse and painful suffering, Ma Mei saw her former self, clean, light and pure. She denounced the "dirty" Ma Mei now, adding to the burden and guilt in her heart. This is hallucination and auditory hallucination under excessive mental pressure, which means the inner entanglement and complex struggle of the horse.

4. Identity Mask 3: Your own protector, me.

Strictly speaking, this is not Ma's identity mask, but the product of her subconscious fantasy-the crazy protector among fans. The bridge that highlighted the confusion of Ma's identity was assassinated and raped by me on the set after the filming. With the destruction of TV series and the interference of "horse stance just look", Ma Ma's "dirty" image is fixed in her heart. After the transformation, she spurned herself and subconsciously wanted to destroy the reality itself: let her die in the hearts of crazy fans now, and only keep her innocence when she was an idol singer. Here, my identity mask is the illusion of the unfused subject.

3. Identity Mask 2: Unarmed Protector (Real)

We may have another explanation. ME is really a hemp fan, and it is really a "crazy fan" in the film. Then, in the process of committing crimes with students studying in the United States, there is also the possibility of cognitive impairment of schizophrenia. In his cabin, when he was banging on his diary crazily, he put his arm around his shoulder and repeatedly said, "I have to rely on you." In his auditory hallucination, he regarded himself as a real "protector", but he didn't know that the use of "protection" like "Ministry Diary" was actually a great harm to horses.

So, am I here by myself or studying in America? Or is it just an illusion? There is no standard answer. As the director himself said, the diversified interpretation of this film is not a bad thing.

4. Identity Mask 3: An accomplice in studying in the United States

Because of the director's deliberate confusion, this clue was buried and hidden. The multiple identity masks of three characters and three complicated lines are intertwined, which makes the narrative structure of this film complicated. The director deliberately disturbed our thinking with fog bombs with identity obstacles.
