Lighting skills of outdoor photography of models

Leaving the studio, the lighting situation outside the studio is different from that inside the studio. Outdoor, sometimes your light is just a sub-light, in order to reduce the contrast, because sunlight is the best main light; But sometimes, the flash in your hand may be the best main light in your creation, and sunlight is just a tool to brighten your background; And if it is cloudy, the lamp in your hand may be the best weapon to create "sunshine". So when shooting outside the shed, it is a world in one's heart.

If you shoot indoors, there are more conditions to consider. Sometimes you have to consider how much freedom the scene has for lighting, because some indoor places are very narrow, so at most it is the play of jumping lights; In some indoor situations, when light enters, you can use your own strength to play the role of flashing lights. Moreover, some rooms have no lights at all, so they should be played indoors as part of the shed. Because the situation outside the shed is not completely controlled by yourself as in the shed, it is more important to have a solid lighting foundation.

Let the sun shine in, create a natural sense of sunshine and reduce the contrast.

The picture below looks like a photo of the sun shining into the room. It seems that the problem is not big. However, in fact, the photo environment at that time was cloudy.

This room can only receive light from one side. Although it looks like a pretty good light environment from the naked eye, in the lens of a camera, it is easy to be photographed as Gao Fancha because the tolerance is not as great as that of the naked eye. In addition, because it is cloudy outside, the quality of light is not as good as that of sunlight, so we should create some fake sunlight to reduce the contrast when shooting indoors.

▲ When you don't turn on the light, you can see that the light texture is actually not so good.

Description of light distribution mode

From the following two pictures, we can see that we first put a lamp parallel to the model outside the window of the model's right hand, so that the height of the lamp holder is higher than the height of the window, and then illuminate it from top to bottom, creating a situation in which light enters the room. The purpose of making the light parallel to the model is to create a highlight area with a hook edge and change the contrast of the whole photo.

In order to reduce the contrast, we fill a jumping lamp in the front of the model to fill the room with soft light to reduce the contrast on the model's face; Under such lighting conditions, we can get an indoor sunshine photo without much contrast for holiday photos.

▲ Used for contrast reduction.

▲ Create light and shadow on the ground.

Make up the dazzling sunshine, create natural sunshine and reduce the contrast.

The same weather conditions, the same shooting location, we change rooms, we can use other light to create another false sense of sunshine. Here, what I want to create is the lighting environment of the balcony at three or four in the afternoon. Everyone who has a balcony at home knows that at three or four o'clock in the afternoon, the light will hit the balcony, and then some strong reflected light will enter the room. I'm here to simulate this light.

Description of light distribution mode

Therefore, we set two flashlights 3 ~ 4 meters to the left of the model; The purpose of using two lamps is to make the light become a plane, rather than a point light source formed by only one lamp. Then at the window, don't turn on the light this time; Let's lower the lamp, about as high as the model, and then light it from top to bottom, about 50 ~ 100 cm away from the model. The purpose is to reflect the light on the ground and simulate the reflected light reflected outside in the afternoon, instead of hitting the model directly.

After this lamp is turned off, we still have the problem of too much contrast. Because our main light source is only on the side, we still put a jump lamp in front of the model to reduce the contrast. Similarly, in this picture, we can also use the lighting method in the last case to supplement the light, which can not only create a false sense of sunshine, but also reduce the contrast and achieve the photo texture we want.

Outside the studio, lighting mainly depends on personal creativity and on-site reaction, so when working outside the studio, we must first make a field trip to understand the light and the situation on the spot, and then carry the lamps we will use as needed to facilitate our work. ;
