What are movie subtitles?
It is a film technology whose purpose is to allow the audience to better understand the content of the film.
Text for various purposes reflected in the video. Such as factory logo subtitles, film title subtitles, credits (cast) subtitles, explanatory subtitles, lyrics subtitles, final subtitles, translated subtitles, etc. These subtitles are divided into opening subtitles, inter-film subtitles and end-credit subtitles according to the order in which they appear during the film screening. In addition to lyrics and translated subtitles superimposed on the screen, most subtitles also have corresponding backgrounds. For example, factory logo subtitles are composed of the factory name and some symbolic background (for example: the Chinese People's Liberation Army August 1st Film Production The subtitles show the studio's logo, with the name of the studio at the bottom of the screen, and the shining five-pointed red star military emblem in the background).
There are several production methods for movie subtitles: ① Shooting: Shooting with a dedicated subtitle photography stage (see the color picture [Animation Subtitle Photography Stage]). ②Printing: a. Black and white subtitles (mostly transparent white subtitles) - use the original negative film of the subtitles (black text, the rest of the screen is transparent) to print the subtitle positive film (transparent white text, the rest of the screen is completely black), Then use the picture positive film (see positive film, negative film, video copy) and the subtitle positive film to expose respectively, print the negative with black characters and negative images, and finally use this negative to print the white characters and positive images Screening copy. b. Color subtitles - If a color film intends to use color subtitles, it can be directly shot in color, or black and white subtitles can be printed in color. To print color subtitles, color filters are added when the subtitle positive film is used to print the negative. For example, if you need to have green lyrics and subtitles on the copy, you can add a green color filter, and so on. ③Printing: It is mostly used to produce translated subtitles for foreign language films. It is usually divided into two methods: hot printing and fading. The former can be used for both black and white films and color films; the latter can only be used for color films. Both processes require the subtitles to be photographed and plated first, that is, the subtitles copper plate is made according to the screen size of the film. The thermal printing method first softens the film (emulsion layer) of the film, and then uses a copper plate to heat and press the film on the subtitle printer frame by frame to squeeze out the film at the writing area, making it a transparent white text with only the film base. The fading method is to first apply a protective layer on the drug film, then use a character mold to squeeze out the protective layer on the writing area one by one, and then use acid to destroy the dye on the writing area without a protective layer to make transparent white characters (slightly milky yellow). Printing subtitles is suitable for issuing a small number of copies. It has the advantages of economy, speed and simplicity. However, since it is difficult to remove the film evenly, it is easy to cause handwriting flickering.
