Why are the two portraits of Zhu Yuanzhang so different?
The official portrait of the emperor was naturally beautified. Therefore, painters will inevitably "touch up" portraits, just as we like to use beauty when taking pictures now.
However, we should pay attention to one thing, that is, the scale of "retouching" is similar to our own but slightly beautified. Therefore, the official portraits from the Ming Dynasty may be beautified, but on the whole they should be similar to Zhu Yuanzhang himself.
Most ugly people were born in the Qing Dynasty, or were partially recognized by the government. Even in the Ming dynasty, there were some ugly ones, but I believe no one dared to publish them. Most of the ugly ones have the characteristics of typical Qing Dynasty costumes or ornaments.
The ugliness of portraits mainly stems from two reasons. On the one hand, Zhu Yuanzhang had a bad reputation in the eyes of scholars, on the other hand, it was the political need of the Qing Dynasty to plan the Ming Dynasty.
