Buy Sony or Canon for commercial photography?

A few people upstairs just said that Sony is not good and Canon is good, but they couldn't make any sense. I guess they are also echoing the crowd.

Let's talk about history first. Sony SLR was formerly Minolta.

Minolta and Nikon were the heroes of Japanese SLR in the film era, and Canon was ranked third at that time.

Then Minolta was too radical, and made a bunch of things that seemed too advanced at that time, which were too expensive, leading to worse and worse management. Finally Minolta was acquired by Konica and then sold to Sony.

So don't worry about the technical background of Sony SLR.

At present, Canon ranks first with more than 30% market share. Nikon ranked second with less than 30%, and Sony ranked third with more than 10%.

Sony is a minority, and it is an indisputable fact that fewer people use it.

I use Sony SLR A700 myself. It has been used for 3 years and is satisfactory in all aspects.

Back to the topic

How about A55? How is it different from Canon's (same price, such as 550D)?

1. Image quality

The picture quality of A55 is not as good as that of 550D. Although Sony doesn't admit it, I have seen some samples. The picture quality of A55 is really not as good as A55d. After all, the light loss through the translucent plate is still relatively large.

feeling

The A55 is too small, so it may not work as well as Canon's. Many people's little fingers are suspended, so a small body means that the grip is not so good, but conversely, the advantage of a small body is that the portability is greatly improved.

operate

The SLR control of the two systems is better on the Canon 550D, because the 550D is operated by a single dial, while Sony's entry-level models all have only one dial. At present, only the future A700, A850, A900, A77 and other high-end machines have dual dials, which is very unkind. It would be nice if they were all full-model double dials like Nikon. I don't know if my buddy in Sony's SLR design department got his head caught in the door! !

4. Features and functions

Compared with the above, A55 is not as good as 550D in performance, but the uniqueness of A55 is the main reason why people buy A55. To put it bluntly, A55 is a SLR camera. The strength of A55 is shooting. Briefly talk about the characteristics of A55, many of which are not available in all Canon models (including top-mounted models).

Features 1: panoramic shooting

Feature 2: Multi-frame superposition synthesis noise reduction

Feature 3: electronic level (so you won't be crooked: the horizon is crooked)

Feature 4: Machine-synthesized HDR photos.

Feature 5: Continuous phase focus tracking in video.

Feature 6: 10 continuous shooting per second.

Therefore, the playability of A55 is far greater than that of 550D at the same price, which is also the main selling point of A55. A new generation of intermediate SLR A77, which combines the playability of A55 and the professional fuselage of A700, will be released this year. Although I use A700, like 550D, I lack many interesting functions. A77 is out, I really want to change the fuselage, hehe.

Don't worry about the camera. In addition to the high-end Zeiss lens, Sony also produced many cheap lenses with good quality, especially 35mmF 1.8 and 50mmF 1.8. ..

Finally, a simple qualitative summary.

If you choose Canon 550D, the photo effect is 80 points, and the video shooting effect is 50 points (because you can't focus, you can focus on the video by pressing the shutter half-time, but the brightness of the picture will suddenly change once every half-time, because you don't measure the light continuously).

Choose Sony A55, the camera effect is 70 points, and the video effect is 80 points (the video is not perfect because of the video overheating alarm and the battery seems too small).
