What is a puppet show?

Puppet puppet show is a kind of local drama performed by puppets. It originated in Quanzhou or Zhangzhou, Fujian, China in the 7th century, and mainly spread in Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Chaozhou and Taiwan Province Province. The head of the puppet is carved into a hollow head with wood. Except for the head, hands and feet of the puppet, the trunk and limbs of the puppet are made of cloth. When performing, put gloves into the puppet's costume and perform the puppet show.

Many experts and scholars have summarized and studied the popular sayings of folk artists. Everyone thinks it comes from the shape of puppets, the shape of the stage, the tools for putting puppets, and the bags for acting fashion puppets. In Quanzhou, Zhangzhou and Taiwan Province provinces, hand-held puppet shows (handbags) are called hand-held puppet shows, puppet shows and small cages, and puppet shows are the most widely known names.

Naming reason:

(1) The puppet used in the puppet show, except the head, palm and feet are wood carvings, the trunk and limbs of the body are all made of cloth, and the shape is square, much like a square cloth bag.

(2) In early performances, the relatively simple stage was shaped like a big cloth bag.

(3) After the performance, all the puppets can be put into a big cloth bag for easy carrying.

(4) During the performance, in order to facilitate sorting and use, the performer threw the used puppets into the sewing bag hanging under the stage.
