There is a roadway in the middle of the compound, with the gate at one end and the ancestral hall at the other. The mansion of Shanxi merchants embodies the local "blue brick civilization". Although they are the most outstanding according to the traditional ranks of scholars, farmers, workers and businessmen, their exquisite carvings, superb craftsmanship of blue bricks, towering courtyard walls and flat marble floors all show a noble style. Lanterns are hung high in the yard all day, and the carved beams and painted buildings inside and outside the house are beautiful, but there is still a gloomy and depressing feeling. 1998, the back garden is being rebuilt, which is a typical Chinese clumsy failure.
