Introduction of orphans in Shanghai

Shanghai orphans refer to a large number of abandoned babies who were abandoned in Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Shanghai and other places during the three-year difficult period in People's Republic of China (PRC) and its later period (generally from 1960 to 1963) and then transferred to North China. In 1960 alone, more than 2,000 orphans from the south were placed in Inner Mongolia. Herdsmen collectively call them orphans in Shanghai. Due to the lack of archival materials, the exact number cannot be verified, but according to limited materials, the total number should be more than 10 thousand. At present, most of the adoptive parents of these orphans have passed away, which has caused them to set off a large-scale tide of finding relatives, and there have also been literary works describing their lives.
