Kanas is definitely the most beautiful place in northern Xinjiang in my mind. When traveling to Xinjiang, I prefer northern Xinjiang to southern Xinjiang because it has more natural landscapes. , forests are rich in water resources, while southern Xinjiang has more cultural landscapes. It depends on personal choice. Of course, the motherland has great rivers and mountains. I think northern Xinjiang is definitely a place that can impress you. Let’s take a look at what to see in northern Xinjiang. Fun.
In Kanas, we mainly visit three places: Kanas Lake, Hemu Village and Baihaba Village. Kanas Lake is the core attraction, with the mysterious Kanas Lake Monster and Shenxian Bay, Wolong Bay and Moon Bay. Hemu and Baihaba are both villages owned by local people. They have the charm of a Swiss town and are a paradise on earth. Many people believe that these two villages are the essence of Kanas.
Three Bays of Kanas
Three Bays: Shenxian Bay, Moon Bay and Wolong Bay. Sandaowan is the essence of the scenic spot. They are located on the road from Kanas to Jiadengyu. They are all mature attractions. The flow of the Kanas River is relatively fast, and the water surface is suddenly wide at Sandao Bay, so the water surface is relatively calm.
Whether Sandaowan looks good, clouds and fog are the key! The best time to take photos of Sandaowan is in the morning, when the sun’s rays force the clouds and fog between the canyons to break away, which is when the clouds and fog change the most.

Baihaba Village is located on the border river between China and Kazakhstan. It is known as one of the most beautiful villages in China. It is 31 kilometers away from (Kanas Lake)
and is part of the Kanas Scenic Area. It can be reached in less than an hour from the tourist transfer center in the Kanas Scenic Area to Baihaba. There is a mountain road between the two places, but the road condition is very good. To go to Baihaba, you need to apply for a border permit. The original ID card can be obtained at the police office of the transfer center (visitor center) in Kanas Scenic Area, which is very convenient. The black car is more convenient. Taking the shuttle bus in the scenic area costs 124 yuan per person, but it is inconvenient. You can only follow the designated route.
Hemu
Hemu is located in the east and north of Kanas, dozens of kilometers away from Kanas. You can drive there through a small road about 2-4M wide. It took about an hour and a half, and the mountain road was winding and dangerous. The scenery along the way is beautiful, and there is a Hemu River flowing through it. The scenery is beautiful, much like Kanas ten years ago. Because it was developed relatively late, it retains a certain original flavor.
The best season to visit Hemu Village is from early June to early October every year, with the most beautiful scenery in late September and early October. At this time, the leaves of the birch trees on the slopes on both sides of the village were golden and brilliant, and snow began to accumulate on the top of the mountain, forming small snow-capped mountains, like a fairy tale world. Hemu Village is not big. The main road in the village is about two to three kilometers long. You can explore it on foot in the village. The observation deck is located on the hillside on the other side of the Hemu River. It can be reached in about half an hour from the village. Kanas travel time
Best season: June and September are the best.
The sea of ??flowers in June and the golden autumn in September are the signatures of Kanas. Kanas in June is full of spring, and the boundless green makes it hard to leave. After a short summer, Kanas welcomes the golden September, which can be said to be full of dyes.
Winter in Kanas, when the lake is frozen, is equally exciting. Kanas has launched a winter tourism project (October 10th - May 10th of the following year), which not only waives some tickets, but also allows you to experience it by riding a "horse-drawn sleigh". There is also a Winter Photography Tourism Festival every winter.
Where to stay in Kanas:
There are a small number of accommodations in the scenic area, which need to be booked in advance. Otherwise, you can only take the shuttle bus back to Jiadenyu outside the gate of the scenic area to stay. Dengyu is the concentrated area for accommodation in Kanas, with high, high and low-end accommodations, and of course don’t think about how cheap they are. Of course it is best if you can live in the scenic area, because after 6 pm, tourists in the scenic area will go out one after another, and the entire Kanas forest has restored its tranquility, as if it is privately owned.
Notes
1. When traveling to Kanas, a border defense permit is only required in Baihaba. The border defense permit can be applied for at the place of residence, Kashgar, Burqin, or directly at Kanas Scenic Area with an ID card.
2. Food prices in the scenic area are very expensive, and it is even more difficult to buy food if you ride a horse through Hemu. So try to purchase enough in Burqin. Xinjiang has strong ultraviolet rays and a dry climate, so be sure to prepare enough sunscreen and pay attention to moisturizing.
3. The Kanas area has a large temperature difference between day and night. It can even reach below zero in the early morning and can reach 27℃ when the sunshine is strongest at noon. Therefore, you must keep warm when watching the morning sun. It is better to prepare down jackets, hats, gloves, sweaters, etc. When playing in scenic spots during the day, you can wear a thin long-sleeved jacket and a jacket. When it is hot, you can just take off the jacket. It is not recommended to wear short sleeves to avoid sunburn.
4. There are many horse teams in Hemu. You can often encounter galloping horses and the dust raised is relatively large. It is recommended to wear a mask. In addition, bring some mosquito repellent, gastrointestinal medicine, and other ready-to-use medicines in case of emergencies.
5. Xinjiang’s dry climate and its hot-heated diet of mutton and chili make it easy to get nosebleeds. Chapped skin and lips are also serious, so you still need to bring various protective equipment.
Transportation to Kanas
Kanas is located in the Altay region in northern Xinjiang. The scenic spot has an independent airport. You can choose to take a flight directly from Urumqi to Kanas, which takes about 50 minutes.
There is no train station in the scenic area. If you choose to take a train to Kanas, you can only take a train from Urumqi to Beitun and then take a bus to Kanas. From Urumqi, you can take a sleeper bus to Burqin, and then transfer to Kanas Scenic Area.
It is also very convenient to charter a car to Kanas, especially if there are 7-10 people. It is cheap and cost-effective and saves time. There are various modes of transportation in the scenic area, including shuttle buses, horseback riding, and horse-drawn sleighs in winter.
