Development prospect of general aviation

The number of general-purpose aircraft in China continues to rise.

Since 20 14, the number of general-purpose aircraft in China has been on the rise, and the fleet size has steadily expanded. By August 2020, the number of general-purpose aircraft operating in Chinese mainland will reach 2,930, an increase of 154 compared with the end of 2065,438+09, and almost double the number of 1505 compared with the end of 2065,438+04. The growth rate of fleet size reached its peak in 20 17, and then gradually declined in the following years.

Turboprop aircraft and piston fixed-wing aircraft account for 50%

In terms of fleet composition, turboprop and piston fixed-wing aircraft account for 50% of the total 2,930 aircraft. Among them, the piston fixed-wing aircraft is mainly used for flight training, while the turboprop fixed-wing aircraft is widely used in agriculture and forestry operations, commuting transportation, aerial photography and other fields by virtue of its stronger performance.

Helicopters account for 37% of the total fleet and are mainly used in offshore oil services, aerial survey, agriculture, forestry and plant protection, aerial inspection, power line inspection and other fields. Business jets representing high-end travel account for 1 1% of the total fleet. Although the number is small, it can not be ignored from the point of view of fleet value because of the high average unit price of aircraft.

The growth rate of the number of general aviation enterprises has obviously slowed down.

The growth trend of the number of general aviation enterprises in China is basically consistent with the fleet growth. By August 2020, there are 443 navigation enterprises operating in China, which is only 65,438+07 more than the end of 2065,438+09 due to the COVID-19 epidemic. 20 18 is the fastest growing year, with an increase of 100 or 37% over the previous year.

However, in the following years (20 19, 2020), the growth rate slowed down obviously, reflecting that the market demand was close to saturation and the market competition was intensified, and the key problems restricting the development of the general aviation industry still existed.

The number of manufacturers producing self-developed models accounts for more than half.

Although China has the huge market potential of general-purpose aircraft, it started late and its manufacturing base is weak, and it has been trying to catch up with foreign advanced level for a long time. By June, 2020, 32 general aircraft manufacturers in China have obtained China Production License (PC). Among them, the number of manufacturers producing independently developed models accounted for 56%, and the number of manufacturers directly introduced or acquired accounted for 44%.

Although there are many models independently developed in terms of quantity, except for Yun series and some models, most of the models independently developed in China are ultralight sports planes, which are not suitable for traditional navigation operations, and the domestic market in air movement has not been fully opened, so the market share is also very low.

General aviation flight hours have generally increased, and license training accounts for more than half.

In terms of general aviation flight hours, 20 19 increased by 14% over the previous year, breaking through the million-hour mark for the first time. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, general aviation operations were greatly affected in the first quarter. However, with the epidemic basically controlled in the second quarter, the navigation operation basically returned to normal, and the third quarter exceeded the level of the same period last year. It is estimated that the flight hours in 2020 will be slightly lower than that in 20 19, but still higher than that in 20 18.

Among the 20 19 general aviation flight operation types, license training still accounts for more than half of 55%, followed by industry, agriculture, consumption, transportation and emergency. In the current industrial and agricultural fields, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) tend to gradually replace traditional fixed-wing and helicopters, but they still have huge market potential in navigation consumption (air tours, skydiving flights and personal entertainment flights), transportation (charter flights and short-distance transportation) and emergency areas.

The number of general aviation enterprises that have stopped operating has risen sharply.

According to the relevant statistical data provided by the General Situation of General Small Transport Operation issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the number of general aviation enterprises suspended or terminated in 20 19 and 2020 far exceeds that in previous years, while the number of general aviation enterprises suspended in the first eight months of 2020 exceeded that in the whole year of 20 19.

20 19 and 2020 are mainly 9 1 operating companies, among which helicopter operating companies account for the majority. The main reason is that the market demand has not been fully released, and the market competition has intensified, leading to an increase in the elimination rate. The outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in early 2020 also brought the enterprises a double challenge of management and capital.

At the same time, the development of business jets showed a weak trend due to the intensification of financial and political risks at home and abroad, which also led to the suspension of production of some 135 enterprises mainly engaged in business jets.

Analysis of competition pattern in market segments

-turboprop and piston aircraft market: Teflon Airlines ranks first.

The fixed-wing fleet of turboprop and piston accounts for 50% of the whole general fleet. In 2020, the total fleet will reach 1472, which is the most important force in the general aircraft fleet.

From the market share of turboprop and piston aircraft manufacturers, Teflon Airlines ranks first, with a market share of 30%, and there are many types of aircraft, among which Cessna 172 and Cessna 208 are the piston and turboprop models with the highest market share respectively. Cessna 172 is also one of the most successful light general-purpose aircraft in the world, which is widely used in flight training and other fields. Cessna Aircraft and AVIC Tongfei were jointly established in Shijiazhuang on 20 13, responsible for the final assembly and domestic customer delivery of Cessna 208, and providing original factory maintenance services.

Diamond ranks second with 23% market share, and single piston model DA40 and multi-piston model DA42 are its most popular models. As the largest aviation industry group in China, AVIC ranks third with a market share of 18%. Its self-developed single-engine piston model Yun 5 and double-engine turboprop model Yun 12 also have considerable market share.

-Helicopter market: Robinson occupies the top spot.

The helicopter fleet accounts for 37% of the total general aircraft fleet, and the total fleet will reach 1070 in 2020. In terms of market share of helicopter manufacturers, Robinson topped the list with R44 and R22, accounting for 30%. Airbus, which is headquartered in France, Bell of the United States and Leonardo of Italy occupy the second to fourth places with market share of 23%, 16% and 10% respectively.

-Business jet market: Gulfstream occupies the top spot.

Chinese mainland's business jet fleet only accounts for 1 1% of the total general fleet, and the total fleet will reach 326 in 2020. Judging from the market share of business jet manufacturers, Gulfstream, known as the "Apple" of business jets, still holds the top spot with a market share of 36%.

Canada-based Bombardier, American Teflon Airlines, Dassault France and Embraer took the second to fourth places, with market shares of 28%, 65,438+03%, 65,438+00% and 5% respectively. HondaJet, as a new member of the business jet industry, has also left its mark in China with its ultra-low operating cost.
