The morning rain in Weicheng is light and dusty, and the guesthouses are green and willows are new.

I advise you to drink another glass of wine. There will be no old friends when you leave Yangguan in the west.

The translation is as follows:

A spring rain in the morning in Weicheng moistened the light dust, and the green willow trees around the guesthouse were particularly fresh.

Old friends invite you to have another drink at the farewell bar. After leaving Yangguan West Road, there are no old friends anymore.

This poem was written by Wang Wei when he was sending his friends to the northwest frontier. Later, a musician composed it and named it "Yangguan Sandie". The title of the poem is also called "Send Yuan Er Envoy to Anxi".

Anxi is the abbreviation of the Anxi Protectorate established by the central government of the Tang Dynasty to govern the Western Regions. Its administrative seat was Kucha City (now Kuqa, Xinjiang). In the second year of the Yuan Dynasty, Wang Wei went to Weicheng to bid farewell to him as an envoy to the Anxi Protectorate, and he composed this Qijue poem.

The first two sentences describe the time, place, and environment of farewell, creating a melancholy atmosphere for farewell. In the early morning, the guest houses in Weicheng, the endless post road extending from east to west, the willow trees surrounding the guest houses and on both sides of the post road. All this is a very ordinary sight, but when read, it is picturesque and full of lyrical atmosphere. "Chaoyu" plays an important role here.

The rain in the morning did not last long and stopped just after it moistened the dust. On the road from Chang'an to the west, there are usually cars and horses passing by, and dust is flying in the air. But when we were saying goodbye, the morning rain stopped, the weather was clear, and the road looked clean and refreshing.
