Canon70d photography skills

Canon recently launched a new generation of EOS70D with two-digit professional APS-C fuselage, which is of great significance to Canon, not only because it is a new generation model that continues Canon's two-digit fuselage, but more importantly, it is also the first model equipped with a new two-way planar CMOS focusing system. Canon hopes that this technology can subvert the focusing ability of the monocular camera LiveView and even provide high-speed focusing ability in video recording.

Jump to introduce this model that Canon hopes to bring new light to LiveView.

Before EOS5D appeared, the digital monocular camera with two-digit model in EOS was always the representative of Canon's mid-range camera. With the appearance of 5D and competitors' introduction of models with positioning just between EOS three digits and EOS two digits, Canon also introduced EOS7D with higher positioning in APS-C, but later EOS60D was simplified in specifications and design concepts.

However, with the advent of EOS6D, Canon seems to set the tone and simply offer affordable Quan Huafu models at a certain price. Although EOS70D still continues its 60-day market positioning, the fuselage has more functions; On the other hand, Canon also hopes to attract more users. They think that in addition to advanced functions, it is necessary to provide simpler operation methods. In addition, considering the increasing number of monocular video groups, LiveView capability has become the focus of the product.

This EOS70D is an important model, which has the functions required by advanced users, but also integrates many automation functions and realizes the latest focusing system. The 70D adopts a dual-phase pixel CMOS focusing system, which takes 80% of the pixels on the photosensitive element, including a phase and a diode, to interpret the image phase difference, and cooperates with a high-speed operation engine to provide an original focal plane phase difference focusing system.

Back to the fuselage design, the size difference between 70D and 60D is not far, and the appearance has been modified for some details. For example, in the original design of 60D, various scene modes were listed one by one on the turntable, instead, all modes were concentrated on one item. By setting and selecting the required functions, the turntable can rotate 360 degrees, and the skin texture of the turntable is different. The skin of the 70D turntable seems to have more friction.

In addition, there is a focus mode switch button behind the shutter, which is also a design that the 60D does not have; 70D provides manual focus selection, central single focus and central nine-point automatic judgment mode. In addition, in the shutter mode, the silent shutter installed on Canon's mid-to high-end new machines is also reduced, which not only reduces the trigger sound, but also provides smaller reflector jitter under low-speed shutter.

As for the video button and LiveView, it is changed to the mode of starting with the button and the lever. As long as you switch to the movie mode, you will immediately enter the video mode; The function lock key at the bottom has also become a shift lever design that is biased towards high-end machines. Although the clamshell LCD maintains a three-inch design, it also adds capacitive touch to provide touch settings, touch to select the focus and touch the shutter in LiveView, and touch to select and zoom in and out when browsing photos.

In terms of standard electronic system, 70D provides 19-point full cross focusing, but the distribution mode is similar to 60D's 1 1 point focusing, which adds more focus points on the basis of the existing 1 1 point focusing, providing greater flexibility for detail focusing. The engine of the new 20. 1MP module is DIGIC5+, which can provide high-speed processing capability, with continuous shooting reaching 7fps and the highest ISO reaching 25600.

In addition, the 70D is also equipped with a WiFi function, which provides the functions carried by the previous 6D. It can be combined with iOS and Android systems to provide remote shooting and file transfer functions. In addition, it also has the characteristics of file transfer between cameras, direct printing by CanonWiFi printer, and file sharing to Internet TV through DLNA. The 70D also supports a new wireless flash trigger system, which can trigger a new 2.4GHz flash.

In addition, in the LiveView mode, like the previously released 100D and 700D, it provides an A+ intelligent scene mode like a consumer camera, and also introduces a variety of special effects to preview in time. It can be said that it not only provides advanced professional functions, but also provides features that ordinary users can easily use.

The matching lens this time is a new generation18-135missitm lens. The lens is set as a portable high-magnification zoom lens. Canon also provided a lens with the same focal length before, but this lens was mainly replaced by STM motor with high-speed and quiet characteristics. Presumably, it is also for the layout of EOSMOVIE. Will this practical focal length lens be replaced by STM motor that will not make much noise when autofocusing?

The actual shooting is like the photo above.

In the process of use, the author also takes a current user for 60 days as an example to slightly compare the use sense of two generations of products. As for the focusing system of the optical observation window, it mainly continues the original focusing distribution of 1 1 point to put more focus, but the distribution range is still slightly concentrated. However, for users who often use the 9 o'clock central composition, it is quite convenient to automatically determine the focus, and because the focus of the central block is much more than 60 days, you can narrow the focus before moving the focus when composing.

In the focusing mode of optical observation window, 70D and 60D use the same lens under the same conditions, which feels a little faster, but not obvious; However, the speed of LiveView mode can feel the charm of this dual-phase pixel CMOS focusing technology. Although it is still a little slower than the optical observation window, it can be said that it is advancing by leaps and bounds compared with 60D, and it is more flexible than the optical observation window with 19 points concentrated distribution because the focus is scattered over 80% of the picture.

It happens that my friends have Canon's 28mmF2.8 and sigma 18-50m MMF 2.8, plus Canon's 18- 135mmSTM. Comparing the two models with LiveView, we can all feel the fast focusing speed of 70D. Especially 18- 135mmSTM with STM motor has the most obvious feeling, while Sigma18-50mm2.8 without ultrasonic motor has the smallest difference when using three lenses because of its large aperture and fast focusing motor speed.

The speed of focusing on accusations also surprised my friends. Although the depth of field caused by film size is not as fast as that of mobile phones or small digital cameras, digital cameras with many11.7-inch components, especially when using STM lens at the same wide angle, are faster than EOSM with interchangeable lens after updating the firmware, and the far-end focusing speed is not significantly reduced. Compared with traditional contrast or mixed focusing, the number of multiple focusing is determined.

However, in LiveView mode, because the reflector needs to be lowered again to trigger again, when it is really used for taking pictures, the response speed is still not as fast as that under the observation window, but this is also the fate that traditional monocular must face; However, for users who are not good at taking pictures with optical viewfinder, at least 70 days provides a simpler way to take pictures and photos, and the focusing speed is significantly improved compared with the previous LiveView. Of course, the most important thing is continuous focusing during video recording.

Of course, the dual-phase CMOS focusing system can be used not only for LiveView photography, but also for video recording. The author took several short films recorded in 70D, trying to quickly switch between different focusing bodies for 70D to interpret, which is faster than many APS-C interchangeable lens cameras.

However, in the process of use, it is found that there are some problems in interpreting some objects with 70DLiveView dual-phase pixel CMOS focusing technology. The focusing system of the optical observation window works normally, but it is difficult for LiveView to focus. In addition to the printed backplane at the previous press conference, the author tried to scrape the ice on it, and the optical observation window worked normally. However, as long as the focus range is on shaved ice, LiveView cannot focus. Maybe there is room for correction in focusing logic?

The appearance of 70D is the product of Canon's efforts to pull out the functional and essential gap between 10 digital model and 100 digital model again. But it also shows that even if the current APS-C fuselage provides quasi-professional functions, it also needs to take into account the simple operation needs of beginners. Whether it is the scene mode or the A+ and special effects function under LiveView, it shows that it is difficult for the current APS-C fuselage to take the hard-core professional route, and it is necessary to consider the group that uses the monocular camera for the first time.

Is 70D worth upgrading compared with 60D users? If it is only used as a camera, the function of the 70D will definitely be improved to some extent, but the obvious difference lies in the support of focus distribution, continuous shooting speed, new wireless flash trigger system, silent shutter and wireless transmission function. If you just need more advanced functions and double turntables than the entry-level body, the performance of the current price reduction of 60 days is not bad.

However, considering that it is the first time to use monocular, or the needs of family and friends who are not familiar with monocular operation, or the need for practical video autofocus, it is obvious that 70D has LiveView focusing ability that 60D can't catch up with, even under normal circumstances, the focusing speed is not inferior to that of interchangeable lens cameras with small film size.

The author is also quite optimistic that Canon can use this new focusing architecture on more models. After all, monocular is not only a tool for photographers, but also a tool for ordinary people to pursue high quality and record their lives through video. This is also the reason why Canon strengthens the focusing system and provides dual-phase CMOS technology.
