How do toy collectors store, display and place toys?

The balance between residents, goods and living space,

In fact, it determines your living standard and mood.

Accept how many things you can have at home.

Depending on your mental state,

The key is to ask yourself.

When I first saw Sumitomo @ Dasfo's house, I couldn't help thinking of Japanese "hipster" interior designer Masao Katayama. Last year, Masayoshi Katayama held an exhibition called "Life is hard, let's go shopping", and displayed more than 500 pieces of his collection, including toys, records, art paintings and furniture. There are collections with obvious pop culture characteristics, such as electric guitars, Kaws toys and Murakami Takashi paintings, as well as more "mature" collections of classic furniture and antiques by Nordic designers.

▲ As can be seen in the exhibition "Masahiro Katayama Encyclopedia", the collection of Masahiro Katayama, a toy lover, is by no means limited to toys.

For Dasford, who used to be a media person, it seems to be the same. His toy collection history is as long as 12 years. The number of these collections is amazing, and the price is naturally high. He is a fetish and doesn't stick to a pattern. He doesn't have a regular toy collection, so he can take whatever he likes. However, he is addicted to animation and toys, and he is no longer an "otaku". Toys are more like an ornament of his life.

The picture in this article comes from Dasfo? Part of it comes from the internet.

Dasford said,

At present, the toys in this family

Only less than110 of all his toys were collected.

Q: How many stages has your own toy history gone through?

A: (1) When I was a child, there were many Transformers, four-wheel drive, Altman, Saint, etc. , which is basically a derivative of the popular cartoon theme; (2) After a long blank period, it was not until the adult had income and aesthetics that he began to accept the cool and handsome superhero toy Rebirth, which is also the enlightenment stage; (3) Later, in the crazy stage of highly simulated and exquisite film derivatives, the brand of 12 inch mobile doll, represented by Hong Kong Hot Toys, began to obtain the copyright of Hollywood blockbusters, and the technical quality of this type of toys was upgraded to wax figure level; (4) Finally, I have met some Japanese hand-sculpting writers. Their toys are between artworks and handicrafts, with interesting shapes and not particularly expensive prices. I have entered the stage of simply looking at the shape without looking at the theme, and accepting it if I like it.

▲ The works of Japanese ceramist Okabe bought in Suzuki canteen, a series of "wheeled" shapes.

Q: Besides toys, do you have any hobbies? Your job is also related to toys. Do you do something at home to distinguish between work and life?

A: Other hobbies are playing video games, watching movies (thousands of DVDs), reading and taking photos. I do these things at home, but all these behaviors, including curating, are actually channels and ways for me to absorb information and knowledge. From this perspective, there is no difference between work and life.

▲ Home TV cabinet. ▲ Magazines and books are also part of Dasford's life.

Q: What is your ideal home like?

A: Mexican director guillermo del toro is the director of "Moon in the Water" and "Maze of God". His house in the suburbs of Los Angeles is my ideal home. This is the villa he bought specially to show his collection (10000 pieces), and he named it desolate villa. In this villa, each room has a different theme, and its collections of different themes, including sculptures, books, paintings and props in his movies, have always been placed in this house.

▲ "Bleak Mountain Villa" contains many scary shapes collected by guillermo del toro.

▲ At home, he built a "scary afternoon tea" scene with his collected models. ▲ The living room at home is mainly dark red, dotted with dark green, with fireplace, carpet and large decorative bookshelf. He also collected a large number of medieval ancient books and put them on the shelves.

Q: Then don't you want to make your home like this?

Housing prices in Beijing are very expensive. It is impossible to buy a big villa. If all my collections are piled up in big boxes, I will be squeezed into a space with these boxes, which will definitely be affected by these items. I don't think this is what I want.

▲ Most China players' homes are well-behaved, and most of their lives and collections are put in one room, which feels like a toy store.

Q: When you decorate yourself, where does your inspiration come from? What kind of process has the decoration gone through?

A: There is no specific source of inspiration. Because I have a lot of my own things, toys, sculptures, decorative paintings and all kinds of things, I don't need to show too many things on hard clothes, just a pure white wall. I can actually make my home lively by my own collection. Later, when I was living well, I saw some medieval furniture stores. The advantage of medieval furniture is that it doesn't need to buy too much, just a few basic items, such as chairs and cabinets, and it has a classic appearance and is more durable.

▲ The study is mainly wood-colored white, and next to the desk is a medieval chair that combines metal and curved wood elements. ▲ There are not too many sundries, ornaments, photo frames, desk lamps and some magazines on the desk, that's all. ▲ In the sofa area of the living room, there are some sundries in IKEA trolleys on one side and floor lamps on the other.

Q: You mentioned the series "Beams at Home" before. You find that there are basically some toys in these homes, but none of them are surrounded by toys. Which of these books impressed you the most?

A: What impressed me most was that the founder of Beams founded Yang Le.

▲ Let's set Yang Le, president of Beams, one of the favorite brands of Japanese young people. He is nearly 70 years old and always smiles. His office is located in Harajuku. ▲ There are many interesting collections in his office.

Q: You attach great importance to "balance". Can you elaborate on it?

A: The balance between occupants, their belongings and living space actually determines your own living conditions, living level and living mood. The size of the home space is fixed, and the number of items in the home is constantly changing. How many items you can accept at home actually depends on your psychological state. How much can you accept? The key is to ask yourself. Personally, when dealing with the relationship between my collection and this house, I don't want to show all my collections, but I want to show my favorite toys suitable for display.

A collection corner of Dasfo-bookcase was found on Taobao. The collection on the bookcase actually comes from all kinds of cartoons, including Japanese and European cartoon characters, but they are all black and white; In addition to the toy collection, there are some original paintings I bought in foreign exhibitions to show this corner together. It is not particularly dense, but it can really live with me.

Q: How do you make your series look particularly harmonious?

A: First of all, what you put depends on what you like. Secondly, for example, if all the black and white theme colors are put together, there will be different feelings. One more thing, there are many things, and even the best things can't be piled up. This is what I call thinking about the relationship between things and space. If you really think things are particularly messy and unsightly, then simply put away most things, really put some you want, and then leave some blanks, so that the visual presentation will be better.

▲ Das Buddhism, complete freedom.

Q: What do you think of "home"?

A: In fact, it is the eternal theme of human explorers to constantly find a comfortable balance at home. My relationship with my family is my relationship with toy collection, and what others say may be my relationship with pets, family and so on.
