An Analysis of the Movie Ashes of the Times

"Ashes of Time" was adapted by director Wong Kar-wai from Mr. Jin Yong's novel "The Legend of the Condor Heroes". This film tells the emotional disputes of six complicated characters, and it is one of the biggest productions in China's film history.

The story of Ashes of Time is puzzling. Ouyang Feng, the villain in the original novel, becomes the protagonist. His ex-lover married his brother in a rage, because Ouyang Feng ran away from home and opened a killer agency hotel in the desert. In the vast desert, all kinds of characters appear one by one. Huang, a good friend, is a sunset warrior who misses his wife and doesn't want to meet each other. In his heart, he only has Murong Yan who is full of hatred and Hong Qigong, a funny beggar gang. When Ouyang Feng learned that his lover was dead, he also experienced life and death, relieved in his heart and left the desert.

The movie seems to end in any segment, and it seems to start again in any segment. The story is quiet and picturesque with ups and downs, simple story narration, rendering of sunset and dusk, just right music ups and downs, free and easy characters, few words and enough feelings.

I especially appreciate the characters who don't make movies. I began to understand the story from Leslie Cheung's point of view and thought I understood it, but suddenly everything changed. The story in Nick Cheung's eyes has both positive and negative aspects, with a sense of desolation and loneliness. Although the star scene changes very quickly, everyone's appearance is amazing, as if time stopped at that moment. Leslie Cheung as if everything has nothing to do with me, without any care, coldly looking at people coming and going.

This movie tells Ashes of Time that everyone has a beautiful story, everyone has a peach blossom, and everyone has something or someone to protect. Some people guard each other without regrets. Some people are happy on the surface, but they are always helpless inside. At last, they realized that it was useless to keep things, and it was too late for them to understand.
