How to set SLR settings for oil paintings in art exhibitions

The requirements for cameras and lenses are not high. The lighting in the indoor gallery is enough for viewing, but not enough for photography. Auxiliary lighting is generally needed.

Oil painting is different from other paintings, because ink painting itself has a three-dimensional effect, and the shadow formed by this three-dimensional effect is part of the painting. So you can't use floodlights to create a "shadowless" effect like other graphic works.

But the light should not be too stiff, especially if it is not direct and causes strong direct reflection, so the shooting will be completely ineffective.

It is suggested that the lens should be aimed at the picture, and a single photographic lamp should be illuminated with softer light from the oblique side (soft box or reflective umbrella can be considered). If there is no photographic light, you can also flash the machine with a flash. You can consider jumping towards the rear mirror to avoid being too stiff.

If there is no suitable lighting equipment or the organizer does not allow it, it is recommended to shoot with a tripod. Of course, even with lights, a tripod is recommended, which is a good habit to shoot still life.
