What is dynamic range?

Dynamic range refers to the range from "darkest" to "brightest" contained in an image. The larger the dynamic range, the richer the levels that can be expressed and the wider the color space. The larger the dynamic range of a digital camera, the richer the dark details and bright details that can be recorded at the same time. Dynamic range imaging was originally used only for images generated purely by computers. Later, people developed some methods to generate high dynamic range images from photos with different exposure ranges. With the increasing popularity of digital cameras and the simplicity of desktop software, many amateur photographers use dynamic range imaging to generate photos of high dynamic range scenes.
