Basic knowledge of photographic light

Light:

Light source: natural light: the light that the sun directly shines on the ground, ambient light: all the light generated in the scene, and artificial light: the light generated by artificial instruments.

Direction of light: smooth: uniform light, suitable for shooting close-ups of figures, backlight suitable for shooting silhouettes, side backlight: rich layering, strong sense of space, scattered light: soft light, suitable for shooting indoor portraits.

Color of light: the color temperature of cold light is above 5300k, which is closer to natural light, while the color temperature of warm white light is between 3300 K and 5300 K, and the light is soft.

Light quality: intensity: strong light and weak light. Hardness: hard light and soft light.

Types of light sources

1, natural light

The light source of natural light is mainly the sun, which refers to the light that the sun shines directly on the ground, such as the direct light of the sun on sunny days, the diffuse light of the sky on rainy and snowy days, moonlight and starlight.

2. Artificial light

Artificial light is the light produced by artificial instruments and equipment, such as fluorescent lamps and lasers.

3. Background light

Ambient light refers to all the light generated in the scene, including natural light and artificial light. The light reflected by glass in some circumstances can also be called ambient light.

Direction of light source

Split-flow lighting: Light shines on the object along the lens direction, which is the most common lighting method in photography and is suitable for shooting close-ups.

Backlight: the light source is located behind the subject, and the illumination direction is facing the camera. The contrast between light and shade of the backlight is great, which is suitable for silhouette shooting.

Top light: the light comes from the top of the subject and forms an angle of about 90 with the lens, which is suitable for shooting a lively and warm atmosphere.

Quality of light

1. Strong light refers to light with very strong light.

1, when shooting under strong light, be careful that the model can't face the light.

2. Choosing a darker background can better highlight the subject.

3. If the light is particularly strong, it is recommended to use a reducing mirror to control the exposure reasonably.

Second, weak light refers to relatively dark light, such as early morning and evening light.

1, the camera should be set with high sensitivity and large aperture.

2. It is generally recommended to set the camera to spot metering.

Third, strong light refers to direct light. For example, at noon 12, the hard light of the sun has obvious shadows, so it is not recommended to take portraits.

Fourth, soft light generally refers to non-refracted light, such as light in rainy days. Soft light has no obvious shadow and is suitable for taking portraits.
