What is a tidal flat? Tidal flats are the general term for beaches, river beaches and lake beaches. They refer to the tidal zone between the high tide and low tide levels along the coast, the beach between the normal water level and the flood level of rivers and lakes, the beach below the flood level of seasonal lakes and rivers, reservoirs and pits.
