Seven composition skills to improve the level of photo shooting

Composition skills are worth every photographer's efforts to understand and master. You don't need to buy any expensive equipment to learn composition, which can undoubtedly greatly improve your photography level. Some people are born with "photographic eyes", but for most people, it takes time and energy to train their visual skills and abilities as photographers.

1. Don't pursue perfection.

It is important to understand that there is no "perfect" composition. As a subjective art form, you will never reach perfection. But there are still good and bad photos. There are many aspects that need to be considered in the composition of a photo, and we will explain them one by one below.

2. Concise

One of the main problems to be considered in composition is the relationship between the elements in the photo, so as to decide which elements should be absorbed and which elements should be excluded. One mistake that many people easily make is trying to put all the interesting things into the picture. But some of the best photos are very concise.

3. Triangle method

One of the simplest rules of composition is the dichotomy. This has become the most commonly used tool for amateur and professional photographers. This method divides the photo into three parts horizontally and vertically, and these nine bisectors and their intersections are the key positions. Trigonometry is a simple and effective rule. For example, landscape photography, the horizon can be placed on the bisector below the horizontal composition. In portrait photography, people's eyes can be located on the last bisector of vertical composition.

4. Landscape composition

The composition skills of landscape photography are the most basic. Wonderful scenery photos are based on composition and photo structure. Ask yourself, what do you want to show in the photo most? Is it water? Or a distant mountain? Or a sunset or a stone in the foreground? What do you want to emphasize most in the photo? Trigonometry is used to ensure the richness of photos, and foreground is used to add a sense of hierarchy and depth to photos.

5. Line

Lines in the picture are one of the most effective tools to make photos full of tension. Horizontal and vertical lines can add a strong sense of structure to photos, while curves have a more relaxed feeling. When shooting, consider the starting point and ending point of each line. The most common method of lines is to guide the audience's line of sight. For example, let the lines extend from the bottom of the photo to the center of the picture. Roads, rivers and railways all have similar functions.

When there are horizontal or vertical lines in the picture, please make sure that the picture is horizontal. You may not believe it. I have seen many wonderful photos that were destroyed because of skew. Of course, it can be adjusted later, but it is better to practice more and do a good job in the early stage of shooting.

Shapes and lines have the same function in composition. When observing in the viewfinder, try to divide the objects in the scene into various shapes. The most important thing is to understand the relationship and influence between different shapes. Powerful shapes such as rectangles and squares are easier to compose than circles, but different shapes themselves can be used as creative themes.

7. Contrast and contrast

When observing the creative theme, we should consider its relationship with the surrounding environment. How does the color, shape, texture and tone compare with the environment? If the contrast is strong, you can make a fuss about it. If the contrast between the subject and the environment is strong, you can try to further strengthen the contrast by composition.
