Lead: What photographic equipment do we need to bring to shoot natural scenery? Below I share an article about what equipment a famous photographer needs to bring to shoot natural scenery.

A complete guide to famous photographers' natural photographic equipment

Look at my photographic backpack. When shooting short distances, I will put most of the equipment in my backpack, because I don't know what equipment I will use in advance. If I take less or miss it, I have to hurry. If I have to travel long distances, then I will only bring the most important equipment, and the utilization rate of these equipment should reach 90%. Look at the list on the left, and you will know what kind of equipment is suitable for nature and detail photography-plus a high-speed lens with a long focal length. (Photo taken by Sandra Bartocha)

The photographic equipment mentioned at the beginning of this book may give people the impression that photographic equipment is more important than observation and composition, but it is not the case at all. Photographic equipment is not so important as all kinds of equipment must be used to take pictures. In this part, you can see some common photographic equipment, which can make shooting easier. If you have similar equipment, of course, you should know how to use it correctly, but having these equipment does not guarantee that you can take successful photos.

From a historical point of view, the role of photography technology has been greatly exaggerated since photography replaced painting as an important means of document recording. Some of the latest functions of the camera show that it has become more and more intelligent: the camera can automatically track the primary subject you want to shoot, and only when the subject smiles can you press the shutter release button.

After seeing an excellent photographic work, many people will ask the first question, what technical means were used when taking pictures. When explaining this problem, I often compare it with the painter and his brushwork when painting, but after seeing a painting, people rarely ask the painter what brushwork he uses when painting.

In this book, every photo is marked with the technical value used in shooting, but this information alone can't help you take a good photo. We can take this as a clue, and through proper analysis, we can better understand the relationship between technical means and aesthetics. Speaking of equipment, we must first talk about how to use it. Because when we use intuition to observe, compose and run out of light, we must ensure that the camera is operated in a subconscious state, so that we can open our eyes, open our hearts and put all our emotions into shooting.

Early consideration

Nature photography is a very broad field, and it is difficult to discuss it thoroughly. The purchase and later expansion of photographic equipment need our careful consideration. Underwater shooting and ground shooting need different tools; Photographing microorganisms requires relevant technical instruments, but it is not appropriate to use these instruments in bird photography. This leads to a question: As a nature photographer, what do you want to shoot?

If you know the scope of the subject you want to shoot, then you should prepare the relevant shooting equipment. Most people who are interested in nature and natural photography want to buy as many shooting-related equipment as possible, but in any case, you should have a key point so that you can find a rational intersection when buying shooting equipment-the equipment you buy can be used to shoot landscapes as well as animals and plants. If you are a novice photographer, you'd better consider clearly from the beginning: which subjects attract you the most, how much money you can invest in photography and how much time you plan to spend.

For a real photographer, it is much more interesting to shoot a small wonder on the grass with a macro lens in a very short time than to hide in a tent and wait for a rare bird that has been lost for hours with an expensive telephoto lens. If you have considered these problems rationally in the preparation stage, then this sense of loss should be avoided later. Finally, with the passage of time, you will find that nature photography and animal photography are excellent subjects that can be explored continuously. Don't worry for the time being, take your time and equip your own shooting equipment step by step.

tripod

Even in harsh conditions, a high-quality tripod should have high stability-it should be wind-proof, waterproof and can fix cameras and lenses. There are many cheap tripods on the market. It is not so much a camera bracket as a camera shelf. So when you buy, you should carefully consider whether you really don't want to invest any more money-clear photos will be your reward. (Photo taken by Ipahagis)

A tripod is an indispensable tool for shooting! A good tripod can make your photos clearer and the imaging effect more ideal. Of course, you may encounter this situation when shooting: although you can free your hands to work when shooting, you must use a tripod because of external conditions. As for what kind of tripod you want to use, it depends on what kind of scene you want to use and what kind of lens needs tripod support to prevent jitter.

The greater the focal length of the lens, the more it needs to be equipped with a tripod with weight and stability. Of course, you can also choose different types of tripods according to different primary themes. Taking pictures of natural scenery with a wide-angle lens is different from taking pictures of animals with a bulky ultra-telephoto lens with a focal length of 500 ~1000 mm, which is the so-called "cannon", and the requirements for tripod stability are different. If you're just going to buy a tripod, buy a tripod with three legs. The frame head can support the heaviest lens. In addition to stability, the influence of climate on tripod and whether it is easy to clean need to be considered when buying. Each leg of a tripod should be smooth when opened, and they can be folded tightly when closed. Finally, the question of material, whether to choose aluminum alloy or carbon fiber, is not just the difference in price. Generally speaking, a carbon fiber tripod with the same weight is more stable than an aluminum alloy tripod.

Handset fork spring head

What kind of pan/tilt you choose depends on your personal feelings. You'd better look at different models and styles of ptz first, and try it if possible, so that you can feel which one is more suitable, spherical ptz or 3D ptz. If you are shooting particularly active animals, you should use a special pan/tilt, such as Wimberley's cantilever pan/tilt. In fact, you can skillfully use any equipment, but only if you have a good impression from the beginning and trust your work equipment.

Clear photos need a stable and vibration-free tripod and a fixed tripod head-lenses with tripod rings (all telephoto lenses) should be placed on a vibration-free tripod and fixed tripod head to minimize vibration. For a 500 mm telephoto lens, the rotation of the camera mirror is enough to make it vibrate, which will damage the clarity of the photo. So the quality of tripod system often depends on its weakest part.

camera

The same principle naturally applies to the choice of camera system. Like the number of pixels and the response speed of the shutter, the design of other buttons of the camera must also satisfy the user. In addition, even if you don't study the structure of the camera, you should be able to operate intuitively, because you often need to explore the relevant operations within a few seconds when shooting. The pixel level of the camera depends on your financial strength on the one hand, and on how you want to use these photos in the future on the other. A12 megapixel camera can fully meet our needs in most cases. Large picture books or special landscape photography only need a camera with a pixel larger than 20 million to clearly and meticulously reproduce the wonderful details of the scene.

For animal photography, the non-full-frame camera with cropping coefficient has more advantages than Quan Huafu's camera, because the imaging area is small, which limits the viewing angle of the lens. When using this camera, you will feel as if you are shooting with a lens with a longer focal length-a 400 mm lens "becomes" a 600 mm lens. There are many kinds of cameras. Although SLR cameras are most suitable for animal photography, other kinds of cameras can also take similar photos. This requires you to be fully aware of the limitations and possibilities of the camera when shooting.

camera lens

The lens is the decisive factor of photographic equipment. The quality and effect of the lens have much greater influence on the photos than the camera. In animal photography, telephoto lens is of great significance. As I mentioned before, when shooting animals, you must keep a certain distance from them. The longer the focal length of the lens, the farther away you can be from animals when shooting them. For photographers, this means that you don't have to think about how to get to the right shooting location and get clear pictures of animals without disturbing them as much as possible.

But the lens used by photographers must also meet the needs of shooting. When shooting animals, if you want to shoot at the waiting place or walk within a few meters near the waiting place, you should choose a 500 mm or 600 mm super telephoto lens. However, if you have to climb a mountain or travel long distances during shooting, the weight of the super telephoto lens is likely to make you tired and affect your shooting. At this time, a 200 mm or 300 mm telephoto lens is a good choice-thanks to the cropping factor of the camera, this kind of shooting is possible.

If you like shooting small things instead of birds or mammals, then a macro camera lens is essential. However, even if you shoot insects and amphibians, you should keep a certain warning distance from them, so it is much easier to shoot with a 200mm macro lens than with a 60mm macro lens, although this short macro lens can shoot the details of plants and animals well.

In fact, you rarely use a wide-angle lens to shoot animals, because you are always not close enough to animals. If possible, a wide-angle lens can help you get completely different pictures of animals, but this will not make it the first choice for animal photography-although it can shoot animals creatively, the use of this lens will be strictly restricted.

The equipment for nature photography will increase with the demand of photographers. At first, a standard lens of 50 mm may be enough. After that, with the changes of your investment in photography, financial situation and other factors, you will continue to add various lenses.

Photographic attachment

You can put a small flat reflector or silver foil in your backpack, so that it can be arranged quickly when needed to provide illumination for the subject in the shadow.

In addition to cameras, lenses and tripods, there are all kinds of useful or useless photographic accessories, some of which can help you shoot successfully, while others will only increase the weight of photographic equipment for no reason. In the macro field or the remote field, various flash systems provide more possibilities for photographers to creatively use light. In addition, polarizing filter is also indispensable in photographic equipment. For gray gradient filters or other filters, a rectangular socket system is available. There are many brands of filters for you to choose from, such as Cokin, Lee and Singh-Ray.

Macro effect can also be obtained by using inverted ring, ordinary lens or wide-angle lens. In addition, the close-up circle can also narrow the distance between the lens and the subject when shooting, so that ordinary lenses can also be used for macro photography.

In the long-distance photography journey, mobile storage devices are very meaningful, which can save your daily photography results. If you attach great importance to the security of stored data, you should prepare two storage devices. Besides, if you still need to write articles or emails, then a small laptop is perfect. In this way, you can use a small mobile hard disk instead of expensive mobile storage devices to store data.

Other equipment

Only by putting on the right clothes can we cope with different weather conditions and let photographers devote themselves to shooting. This applies whether in cold winter or in windy, rainy or snowy weather. This has nothing to do with beauty, but with practicality. Photographers must wear durable clothes, which can make you feel at ease even if you are lying in muddy fields. When packing equipment items quickly, big bags will show advantages. (Photo taken by Dr. Martin Mildenberger)

Nature photography needs other equipment besides cameras and lenses. First of all, photographers need to wear multifunctional outdoor clothes. Secondly, sometimes you have to walk on the stone road, so a pair of shoes with good grip is also very important. And if the shooting place you go to is wet, or the grass is covered with morning dew, it will be more comfortable to wear a pair of waterproof shoes. In this case, rain pants or rain clothes can also make you better engaged in shooting. In this way, your attention can be focused on the primary theme, thus shutting out all kinds of interference in photography. Gloves, hats, scarves and other warm-keeping equipment should also be taken into account when shooting in winter, and sunscreen, sunglasses and sun hats should also be prepared when shooting in summer-when you are immersed in a blue flower, you may ignore the harm caused by strong sunlight. If you want to stay on the ground for a long time when shooting, a small damp-proof cushion or a special cushion for gardening is essential. Of course, knee pads and elbow pads can also come in handy.

If you shoot in a rainy or muddy environment, you must put on a pair of rubber rain boots. Reasonable equipment can not only make photographers feel comfortable, but also play a positive role in the final shooting effect.

When buying some equipment, you should go to other professional commodity stores. For example, stools and umbrellas are usually cheaper in other specialty stores than in nature photography shops, and other useful equipment is often more. The munitions store will also have some nice surprises waiting for you, such as a camouflage net that smells a little rubber. It is very practical in setting up camouflage sites, and sometimes you can shoot as many as you want as long as you are under the cover of camouflage nets.

Without a high-quality camouflage tent, you can't wait to shoot-you must build it quickly and provide enough space for photographers. Pay attention to the fact that the tent should not be too high or too big when buying. Although a bigger tent can protect photographers from being noticed by animals, it is an easy target for modern eyes. This will make you encounter unnecessary interference in the shooting process. The low camouflage tent can provide a comfortable and flat perspective for your shooting, and with the help of camouflage net, it can blend in with the surrounding environment.

If you have visited the shooting scene, then the camouflage tent should play a role. It will be helpful for your shooting to integrate the tent into the landscape reasonably, for example, to build the tent in the bushes and make the tent visually blend with the green background.

Every natural photographer will encounter all kinds of problems in the process of photography activities. Fortunately, in most cases, solutions to these problems can be found in markets or supermarkets. Always pay attention to "edge equipment", there will always be gains.

Photographic equipment is generally divided into digital camera, four-corner soft box, octagonal soft box, quartz lamp, remote control, photometer, reflector, at least two assistants, a makeup artist, and cars that can be used at any time.

What photographic equipment must a professional travel photographer prepare when going out?

Travel photography, which requires research, only contains travel necessities. There is no need to drag equipment and accessories, which will bring you a heavy burden and make the experience less pleasant. If you are thinking about your first trip to take photos, here are the necessities you want to take with you.

1. camera

You have many choices for the camera you carry. However, you want to choose a lighter and smaller product, such as a mirrorless camera or a professional version.

The camera remote control that goes with the camera will enable you to take time-lapse photos. Please make sure it is compatible with the camera you are carrying.

2. lens

You can choose to carry multiple lenses, but what you really want is at least one fixed-focus lens (16mm-35mmmF/4 or 24-70mmm MF/4.

Lens). These types of lenses will provide you with the widest range of use and are usually more compact. If you know that you are going to shoot some kind of photography, such as scenery, you need to bring a lens suitable for the task, such as

70-200mmF/4 lens.

tripod

Tripod can be very big and complicated to pack, so this is completely optional. You may need to consider using compact and mini tripods, which will help stabilize your camera to take beautiful scenery photos, or just take photos that you want to blend in with yourself.

4. kit

Camera bags come in various shapes and sizes, but 100%.

Ensure the safety of equipment when traveling. You may need to consider choosing at least two types of camera bags, one can be carried when hiking in different terrain, and the other is more convenient when walking in city streets.

5. Storage Plug-ins

Since you may want to leave your computer at home, or at least in the hotel, you need to take more SD when you go out to shoot.

Card. Although you may find these goods in many shops during your trip, they are usually expensive. Use Class 10SD cards because they are faster and have larger capacity.

Step 6: Filter

Bringing some filters can help you achieve more effects with images. Polarization filter, neutral density filter and gradient filter can all help balance exposure and color under different settings. You can easily find a toolkit that can provide you with all three, and they are small, so they take up little space.

7. Hard disk

An external hard disk is always an ideal choice to ensure that you have an image backup. South Dakota

It is not uncommon for cards to be lost or damaged during travel. Hard disk can help you reduce the anxiety of accidentally losing all the wonderful photos on the trip. Portable hard disk can store a lot of data and is easy to carry.

8. Battery

When traveling, extra batteries are necessary. Please be sure to put them back in your luggage, because many flights don't allow you to check batteries in your luggage. In addition, bring an extra charger to prevent it from being misplaced or damaged on the road.

9. Camera protection

You should be prepared for any unexpected weather you encounter during your trip. In order to ensure that the equipment is protected, some portable items are needed to keep the equipment running normally and clean.

Rain jacket (a good substitute is a shower cap, which can usually be found in your hotel)

Tilt the cloth and lens pen to keep the equipment clean and dust-free.

10. Insurance

Travel photography will bring a lot of risks, and you may bring expensive equipment. You never know when an accident will happen, which may damage your accessories or camera. Insurance is a must for travel photographers.

We hope you have considered this useful list and packed it for your next trip so that you can go into battle lightly.
