Wang (Yoga curator and yoga teacher) deepak: In the past, according to Indian customs, women were forbidden to practice yoga. It was not until the19th century that the ban was gradually released. Nowadays, Indian women practice yoga, but most of them do it at home, not in public. There are also female yoga teachers in India, but there are few. Like my sister, they also practice, but we don't want them to go out to be teachers.

Many people in China think that yoga is an exclusive sport for girls, because it requires high flexibility of the body and it is too hard for men to practice. This view is too one-sided. Its formation is also related to the propaganda of merchants and media. Posters, leaflets and TV shows few pictures of men practicing yoga, and all of them are women, which makes this impression more deeply rooted.

Tangqiao: This is related to the way yoga first entered China and the promotion of businesses. Whelan was the first person to introduce yoga into China, and her female identity made the public preconceived. When promoting yoga, businesses take losing weight and shaping as a selling point to attract female customers. Over time, this concept has been fixed, thinking that yoga is a woman's patent. However, changes have taken place in recent years. To my delight, more and more male members and old people are practicing in the yoga studio. The oldest of our members is over 60 years old. The proportion of male members is about 15% of the total.

Renuka: There are also female yoga teachers and practitioners in India, but they don't like going out and rarely go abroad. Now there are many male yoga teachers and practitioners in China. I know a famous male teacher who teaches well.

Wang: We have male teachers and members who teach yoga. Men's attitude towards yoga is two extremes, either not practicing or not touching. People who practice yoga are very serious and hard-working, more diligent and more regular than girls.
