What is ExmorRSCMOS for Sony XperiaZ5 lens?

CMOS can adopt both back-illuminated design and stacked design, or a combination of both, so Sony's ExmorRSCMOS is the latter. On the basis of back-illuminated design, the signal processing circuit chip is put behind for stacked design, and there are two design structures. Sony named its StackedCMOS "ExmorRSCMOS", only one more "S" than that of back-illuminated CMOS, which is actually the first letter of the English word stacked CMOS.

The advantage of carrying ExmorRSCMOS lens is that the supporting substrate of the original back-illuminated CMOS image sensor can be replaced on the chip of the signal processing circuit, and the pixel part of the back-illuminated CMOS element can be formed on the chip, thus realizing the process of forming a large number of pixel points on a smaller chip size. Because the pixel part and the circuit part are independent, the pixel part can be optimized for high image quality and the circuit part can be optimized for high performance.
