Portrait photography skills in rainy days

Lead: Speaking of portrait photography, everyone likes sunny weather, but recently spring will come soon. In this rainy season, we might have made an appointment to take pictures, but suddenly it rained. What should we do in this situation? Rainy days seem to be people's least favorite weather. Not only wet, but also worried about slipping, wet camera and poor light. How should I choose? Should we shoot? I would like to share my experience of shooting in rainy days with my friends. In fact, taking portraits in rainy days can also be very Feel.

Nikon D700+AF 85mm f/ 1.8D, aperture F2.8,1125s, ISO 1600.

This photo was taken according to the light of the shop. Because it was still raining, the model was asked to take an umbrella with white fog as a prop. This umbrella also forms the best soft shade under the fluorescent lamp in the shop on the left, and forms the edge light on the model's right face.

First, the light in rainy days.

In fact, the light is very weak in rainy days, so it can be used in rainy days? Excuse me. For example, the model is arranged in a dark place with bright light sources outside. By using light and shade, the model can have the effect of edge light and backlight, and the lighting of nearby shops can also be used to create the effect of backlight. It can also form different atmospheres, improve the shortcomings of weak light in rainy days, and make the picture more layered and not too dull.

This one uses the lights of the shop on the left and the lights behind the model to make the facial light have a sense of backlight, so that the model can be integrated with the scene environment and have a sense of hierarchy.

So pay attention to the source, brightness and general direction of the light, and then put the model in a place where the light source is concentrated, etc., not only on rainy days, but also at night? Excuse me. Borrowing street lights or signboard lights will have a similar effect. Because the light source is weak, it is inevitable to use F2.8 or even larger aperture to avoid the dark part being too dark to be pulled back later. Naturally, ISO should be improved, so that the shutter is within a safe range. When you are uncertain, you should take more photos just in case.

The following photos were taken on a rainy day. It rained heavily that day, and sometimes it was foggy, but it just created enough atmosphere. ISO was pulled to 800 to 1000 for shooting, and the light borrowed was the lights of merchants along the road. When I went back, I tried to highlight the nostalgic atmosphere with warmer colors.

Waiting for the rain to stop on the street, taking the street view behind you, retro and nostalgic.

To tell the truth, when shooting that day, sometimes it rained so hard that I couldn't hide from the rain at all, and I even had to shoot around my neck with an umbrella. It doesn't matter if you get wet. Take care of the camera.

Second, the scene selection and composition

It makes sense to hold an umbrella in your hand on rainy days, unless you want to take a wet photo, or take some photos when it rains. Shooting in rainy days is really a big test of physical strength and spirit. Walking on the muddy road everywhere, wet and sticky, is actually not very comfortable, sometimes with an umbrella, sometimes the rain is small, and the real shooting time and the number of pictures are bound to be limited.

Using the gap between trees, the figure is placed in the middle, and a triangular composition is vaguely formed under bright light.

Besides sheltering from the rain, the umbrella is the best prop at this time, with a large area of umbrella plus the playful expression of the model and the extension on the right.

But this is the way to take pictures. When it feels right, the shutter will be pressed all the time. As long as the rain is not too heavy, don't take the time to take pictures without an umbrella. Although the light in rainy days is not good, it is at least diffuse light, and the contrast is well controlled. In fact, there are occasional surprises. On the other hand, I think since I want to take pictures, I don't have to mind too much.

It rained heavily that day, but we had a good time. The contrast between the bright part and the dark part is still great, but the umbrellas and figures in the bright part stand out more because of the darkness.

The special growth direction of the trunk and branches at the scene forms a special balance with the people holding umbrellas.

Third, the sunshine after the rain

Usually, after rain, the air feels cleaner, suspended particles or dust in the air are temporarily less, and suddenly it becomes much fresher. Of course, after the rain, there will be sunshine soon. This kind of weather will be more common in summer, which is the sunshine after the thunderstorm in the afternoon. Of course, there is no denying that such weather is inevitable.

This photo was taken after the heavy rain. After the heavy rain, the sun appeared, and the sky was still slightly raining in Mao Mao. However, when I saw the backlight, I couldn't help but get excited. I used a telephoto of 70-200mm to compress the sense of space, and the falling raindrops were like strings of pearls.

If you are in the natural environment, you can pay attention to the water droplets left on the leaves, because those pearls that turn round after being illuminated by light often have similar effects when you shoot the leaves against the light, because the reflective effects produced by the water droplets illuminated by light have different charms.

After the heavy rain, the light spilled through the transparent PVC ceiling shines from the right side of the model like soft light, and the decoration on the scene and the resting model also become a quiet moment (the author seems to feel a little oil painting). This kind of light gives people a very comfortable feeling, and this one was shot with 24-70mm, and many colors were framed in the picture.
