1922 Worked as an apprentice in meifeng Lithography Bureau, learning the lithograph technology of color printmaking.

65438-0927 entered Shanghai Tianyi Film Company to study photography and printmaking, and started his film career. I didn't study photography during the period, but also became an actor and a walk-on. Later, through diligent study and hard practice, I mastered the initial photography skills. From 1927 to 1933, nearly 30 films have been made in Tianyi, Mingxing and other film companies, among which the more successful ones are Little Girl, Flying Flocks and Struggle. During the period of 1934, films such as "The Robbery of Peach and Plum", "The Escape" and "The Storm" were filmed for Dentsu Company, and the photography creation tended to be realistic.

After 1935, he worked as a photographer in the Film Unit of the Political Training Department of the Military Commission of the National Government, China Film Studio and Dida Film Company, shooting newsreels, feature films, Defending Our Land, Passion of the Soul, Baptism of Fire, Orphan Island Paradise and Japanese Spy.

After 1942, he worked as a photographer and technical director in Central Film Studio, CLP No.1 Factory and Kunlun Film Company successively, and made films such as Diary of Returning Home (in cooperation with Yuru Wang), Love from afar (in cooperation with Zhu Jinming), Spring Without Opening the Cover, and served as a photography consultant for One River Flowing East and Two Roads.

After 1946, he worked as a photographer of CLP No.1 Factory, a photographer and technical director of Cang Kun Film Company. Shoot films such as Diary of Returning Home and Canned Spring.

From 65438 to 0949, he worked as a photographer in Northeast Film Studio, shooting films such as Zhao Yiman, White-haired Girl and Land. Later, films such as Mei Lanfang's Stage Art and Fairy Couple were filmed one after another. He won the first prize of1957-1949-1955 Excellent Film Award of the Ministry of Culture for filming White-haired Girl.

Later, he was transferred back to Shanghai, where he successively served as the chief photographer of Shanghai Film Studio, director of Shanghai Film Bureau and director of Shanghai Film Technology Research Institute, and made films such as Mei Lanfang's Stage Art (Up and Down), Search College and Chen Sanwu Niang. He also participated in the development of new cameras, optical skill printers, underwater photography equipment and stereoscopic film shooting equipment. After the reform and opening up, he still served as a photography consultant for films such as Sons, Grandsons, Seeds and Silence.

1956 won the title of national advanced producer. 1958, joined the China * * * production party. His films include One Man, White-haired Girl, Mei Lanfang's Stage Art and so on.
