The design art education of Nanjing Art Institute has a long history as a school's pioneering work.

Specialty direction of environmental art: to cultivate students' basic ability and corresponding working quality in environmental art design (indoor and outdoor environmental design, landscape art, environmental planning and design). The works of teachers and students in this department are often adopted by various large-scale interior design and public art design projects inside and outside the province.

Professional direction of animation design: to cultivate students' basic ability and corresponding work quality in advertising planning, design, production, market operation and other professional fields (combined with design major).

Industrial design major: to cultivate students' basic ability of industrial design (product development, product modeling, product and corporate image design) and corresponding work quality. The works of students in this department have won many gold, silver and bronze awards in domestic design competitions.

Fashion Engineering and Fashion Design Major: Fashion Engineering and Dyeing & Weaving Design Major Direction: To cultivate students' basic abilities and corresponding working qualities in the professional fields such as fashion design, dyeing & weaving art design, and indoor textile supporting design. 1998 was rated as one of the eight famous teaching colleges (departments) of clothing specialty in China.
