7 Backlight Photography Tips

Backlight refers to the light shining from behind the subject. When shooting with backlight, it is easy for the subject to become a silhouette, so it is relatively difficult to control the exposure. Backlight photography is often not recommended for beginners. But the artistic effect of backlighting is also unique. Backlighting can add a moving edge of light to the outer edge of the subject (if it is sunlight, it will be a golden edge). If processed properly, you can create a unique beauty and take artistic light and shadow shots.

What you need to pay attention to when taking backlit photos is that when the light ratio between the foreground and the background is too large, the background will be overexposed or the foreground underexposed. In order to reduce the light ratio, you must pay attention to supplementing the foreground. For light, you can use a reflector or a flash. If you see someone using a flash when shooting against the sun, you have to respect him because he is an expert and he is narrowing the light ratio between the foreground and the background.
