A Brief Introduction to The Pirate Won the Gold Crown

1987 was nominated for the Oscar for fashion design, and won the best fashion design and modeling design in César Awards.

When the craze of Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy swept the world, and fans all over the world were fascinated by the legendary Pirates of the Caribbean in the Victorian era, who would have thought that as early as 1986, the United States had already filmed a movie about the legendary pirates, and movie master roman polanski handed over the answer sheet-Pirates.

The Pirate Who Won the Golden Crown tells a legendary story about the Red Captain. This "red beard" captain is one of the most representative legends about pirates. Like Captain Hook, he has become a classic model of pirates. Captain "Red Beard", with fluffy red beard, wooden lame, greedy, cunning, fierce and cruel, enjoys freedom and gallops in the Caribbean. He has all the characteristics of a pirate: he opposes oppression and is free. And Bai Ma Xiu really played such a legendary figure very well and presented his personality vividly to the audience. We can even guess that in the future Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack played by Johnny Depp and Captain Barbarossa played by Geoffrey Rush are the incarnations of the "Red Beard" captain in Two.

The film begins with a small raft on the rippling sea. Captain Red Beard and his sailors, or his young companion frog, are drifting on this raft, perhaps after decades of hunger and thirst. It turned out that the two companions were fighting to save their lives. When they found the Spanish warships coming in the distance, they immediately gave up the idea of killing each other and aimed at the Spanish warships as a whole.

Generally speaking, the plot of the film always revolves around pirates representing freedom, officials and officers on Spanish warships, and several battles. Of course, the plot of this kind of repeated fighting must be very compact and ups and downs, otherwise it will become a comic book, but all this is too simple for Polanski. In this part of the plot in which Red Captain beard occupied the warship for the first time, Polanski took the lead and created endless subtle twists and turns. The audience will never guess what will happen next.

As far as the scene of Red Captain beard and his companions boarding the ship and being rescued is concerned, Polanski always interspersed humor in the details and never missed the opportunity to portray the identity of Red Beard and Frog. Young Frog quickly climbed the huge statue of Poseidon at the bow of the warship to show his young physique and flexible hands and feet, while "Red Beard" refused to throw away the box containing wealth, waiting for Frog to pull him aboard with a rope, and his greedy and desperate character immediately jumped onto the screen. Even with such a simple set of shots, the director uses parallel montage to compare the behavior of the two people, and at the same time, he loses no time to create a thrill. Who would have thought that Frog was crawling when suddenly Poseidon's finger was broken; Who would have thought that the wooden leg of Red Captain beard could not be pulled out because it was embedded in the gap of the raft? At the same time, when he decisively raised his knife and cut at the wooden leg, sharks wandered around it and fed the machine to hunt; Who would have thought that Frog slipped while trying to pull the captain onto the deck ... Even for such a scene that can be completed in just a few minutes, the director used photography skills to lengthen the time, throwing one suspense after another like luggage, interlocking one after another, so that the audience would never guess what the next scene would be.

Similarly, Captain "Red Beard" used "tricks" to incite slaves on warships to revolt and seize warships, which seemed to be completed in an instant, but there was constant suspense. When Captain beard tried to open the door of the armory with a key, he was suddenly entangled in a rope. At this time, his back was suddenly discovered by an officer. Later, when the officer was killed by Frog, the audience suddenly breathed a sigh of relief, but this tone was not smooth. When Red Captain beard climbed onto the deck, he was surrounded by officers' guns. So the audience thought the riot was over. As expected, Captain Red Beard and Frog were forced to eat the cooked dead mice. Of course, the director once again had to use the camera to lengthen the time. The camera kept wandering between the two people who ate the mouse and the audience, repeatedly focusing on the action of cutting the mouse with a knife and fork, but delayed putting it in the mouth, making the audience feel that violence might break out again at this time, but the director let the audience down. The captain ate mice one by one, and nothing special happened. The audience may be frustrated and relaxed by this long-awaited and endless riot scene. While watching Captain Red Beard be hanged, suddenly, the battle began. The slaves finally defeated the officials, and the captain shook off the pirate flag and took the warship away.

After several times, the plot of pirates and officers fighting for warships is also relaxed, ranking high, which always attracts the attention of the audience. However, as a movie with box office ambitions, in addition to such magnificent battle scenes and plots, it is necessary to add romantic love elements of handsome men and beautiful women, and it is best to add a passionate bed scene, and everything will be complete. It is a pity that Polanski lacks such wisdom. Throughout the movie, it seems that only the young Florson and the niece of the Spanish monarch can have some romantic love. In desperation, there is such a plot. Frowson saved the beauty twice in exchange for a thank-you kiss from his niece and a sentence "You saved my virginity twice". Keeping chastity means that it is impossible to have sex. Polanski just didn't have John Woo's open-mindedness to show the joy of Zhou Yu's little girl. In fact, "the reason why chastity is preserved is to take it away at last" is still quite postmodern logic at present. Perhaps because this is a Spanish niece, except for the waves squeezed out from under the corset, there is really nothing desirable in appearance, and she is not as good as Elizabeth who can dance like Charlie's angel in Pirates of the Caribbean, so this passionate sex scene can be avoided.
