What is a point cloud file?

Point cloud is a massive collection of points that express the spatial distribution and surface characteristics of targets in the same spatial reference system.

According to the principle of laser measurement, point cloud includes three-dimensional coordinates (XYZ) and laser reflection intensity.

According to the principle of photogrammetry, point cloud includes three-dimensional coordinates (XYZ) and color information (RGB).

Combining the principles of laser measurement and photogrammetry, the point cloud is obtained, including three-dimensional coordinates (XYZ), laser reflection intensity and color information (RGB).

The attributes of point cloud include: spatial resolution, point accuracy, surface normal vector, etc.

After obtaining the spatial coordinates of each sampling Point on the surface of the object, a group of points is obtained, which is called "point cloud" (point

Cloud).

The point cloud file can be regarded as a three-dimensional map, and there are many specialized reverse software that can edit the point cloud, such as imageware, geomagic, copycad, rapidform and so on.
