Sometimes, when operating the model in SketchUp, an unwary person will find that some parts near the model have disappeared on the screen, just like an invisible plane cut off the front of the model, so that not only the complete appearance of the model can not be seen, but also the blue back inside the model can be clearly seen. Even if the scene is rotated or translated, the damage near the model in the picture cannot be improved. People can't help but worry about whether it is because of their unintentional operation mistakes that the model is damaged, resulting in the phenomenon of "broken face". This is also a question that users who are not familiar with SketchUp operations often ask on forums.

This phenomenon is called "camera clipping plane". First of all, don't worry. Although it will cause some visual troubles, it will not cause substantial damage to your model.

This phenomenon may be caused by several situations:

You may have set the FOV too wide. In photography terminology, you set the lens angle of this SU default camera to a wide-angle lens. Normally, you can adjust the FOV between 1 and 120 degrees (deg) (this FOV is set to 35 degrees in SU Free Edition and 30 degrees in SU Pro Professional Edition). If the FOV is set at too large an angle at a time, the near foreground of the visual picture seems to be cut off. In the process of operating the scene in SketchUp, it is easy to change the field of view (FOV) inadvertently as long as you hold down the Shift key and use the Zoom tool to enlarge or reduce the scene. In fact, it is not difficult to remove this phenomenon. Setting the FOV back to 30 degrees (the so-called standard lens is 67mm) and performing a "maximum zoom" will naturally remove this phenomenon.

⑵ Another situation that may lead to cropping is when Camera Perspective Mode is turned off. In this case, click the "Maximize Display" button in the toolbar (the button looks like a magnifying glass with four red outward arrows), the camera lens will be reduced to show the whole model, and the original cropping situation will be alleviated.

(3) On the other hand, when the model is enlarged or reduced to a smaller or larger scale, the vicinity of the display scene is sometimes cut off. In this case, as long as the scale of the model is changed, the feeling around the scene can be eliminated.

(4) If your model is far from the origin, the scene may be cropped. The so-called origin is the point where the red, green and blue axes intersect. In this case, as long as the model is moved to a position close to the coordinate origin, the clipping phenomenon can be removed smoothly. Operation method: Select the whole model, use the "Move" tool, first grab a corner of the model box on the ground, and drag the model while typing "Value control box (in the lower right corner of SU window)". This will make the corner just caught on the model move to the coordinate origin, and at the same time, it will also alleviate the phenomenon that the camera cuts close to the scene.

For the fourth possibility, there is an exception, that is, the main model you are dealing with is near the origin of coordinates, but for some reason, an entity is inadvertently added far away from the origin of coordinates, even a short line segment may cause "broken surface", but this small entity is not easy to find.
