DV is a 1394 interface. It is used to connect to the 1394 interface of a computer for video capture.
AV is to plug one end of the AV cable into the AV output port of the camera, and the other end into the Video Out port of the TV or VCR, etc. The red and white ones are plugged into the Audio Out port of the TV or VCR, etc. Note that it must be plugged into the audio and video output jack. If there is an S-Video, you can also connect one end directly to the TV's S Video Out, and the other audio end can still be connected to the TV's audio output.
