Getting started is getting started. I suggest you choose Canon 500D, because when you don't get started, the high-end choice will almost certainly be Canon, so you won't waste too much because of the brand from getting started to having a fever.

If you are a complete consumer, you can use Nikon.

But since you have this major, I suggest Canon. You won't regret it.
