Common composition methods for portrait photography

What are the techniques for portrait composition? What are the common ways of composition in portrait photography? Below I have compiled the portrait photography composition skills of SLR photography for your reference!

1. Tic-tac toe composition

This is a composition method that has been used N times and is also the most popular. Universal composition. Whether you want to take pictures of landscapes, portraits, street photography, travel photography, or candid photography, it is the same. But it is an old-fashioned thing. It can be used whether you are a master or a novice. In fact, the tic-tac-toe composition is the easiest, most stable, and most effective. Insurance is the most accepted by the public.

2. Central composition

When I first learned to take pictures, people said, "Don't put people in the middle, you are a newbie." I just followed it stupidly, thinking that it was only Tic Tac Toe. People will think you are a master if you put the person in the middle. People will know you are a rookie at a glance. You don’t know how to take pictures and you still have a SLR. But after taking pictures of tic-tac-toe for a long time, I turned around and put the person in the middle. I found that it’s not that bad after all. It depends on how you use it. Just avoid taking headshots or close-ups all the time.

In fact, when shooting with scenery, the central composition is simple and easy to use. If you also use Canon’s entry-level or professional-level 5D2, you will know what I am talking about, so don’t think that using the central composition is awkward. Shameful, in fact, the shameful people are those who can’t even take the central composition well!

3. Match the foreground composition

Sometimes I really want to take a close-up, but the close-up is very monotonous. Or maybe the scenery is boring, and I always feel that there is something missing about taking portraits alone. At this time, you have to match the foreground. The easiest way is to take a picture of a person with a blurry flower in front. I think everyone has taken this kind of photo, right? But changing the flower into a wall is also a way to match the foreground. Don’t think it’s weird to put an entire wall, or that it leaves too much space, just go ahead and take pictures!

4. Crop and compose the picture.

People say it’s good if you take good pictures. Feel, the photo is terrible. People say how the head should look like and the legs should look like. Or what are you taking? But it doesn’t matter. We may not take good pictures at the beginning of practice. We can then crop the pictures according to the composition we like when we get home. There is no way, not everyone is a genius and can take the picture well in one go. , of course, neither am I. I took random photos at the beginning and was very frustrated. However, I have never used PS to crop photos, so my method is to delete them if they are bad and capture what I want on the spot. So far, if you want to waste the shutter like me, you can refer to my method. However, I think this has the advantage that you will not rely on the computer and think about cutting and repairing every photo at home.

With my method, you can practice shooting on the spot, but of course it is a waste of shutter speed, and after wasting it, the shot may not be better than the one shot with software... After shooting for a while, you will You will know how to crop so that the photos will not look weird. At this time, you will be successful, and the photo cropping method can only be taken by you. This is your style. Of course, you can always use a computer to crop. It just won't help your photography skills.

5. Instant composition

This kind of composition is not difficult, but it depends on luck, otherwise you have to blast the shutter and take a few more pictures to get a good one. Usually it is for To capture expressions or movements, this kind of photos are usually more natural and dynamic. I also prefer this kind of photos, but there are very few decent ones.

Such a composition depends on your skillful technique, interaction with the MD, and "luck" to take wonderful photos. Therefore, many people like street photography because street photography lacks one factor "interaction with MD". What is left is just your own observation and ability to capture moments. It’s okay if you want to shoot birds randomly. Anyway, there is always a good picture even if you take random pictures. However, when taking random pictures, you must instantly match the composition mentioned above and add the right expression or action, that is, "there must be something in the chaos." Preface: "This is the difficulty of this kind of composition.
