Sergei Eisenstein is an innovative film director, film art theorist and educator in the Soviet Union. Outstanding artist, doctor and art professor of the Russian Federation.
Eisenstein was born in a family of Jewish architects and spent his childhood in this city. He went to Paris (where he saw his first film) and studied French, German and English. He likes reading and drawing cartoons since he was a child, and he is also deeply interested in drama.
At first, Eisenstein intended to follow in his father's footsteps. 19 15 years. After graduating from high school, he entered the School of Civil Engineering in St. Petersburg, where he lived with his mother for the next two years.
19 17 revolution interrupted his studies. In February, Eisenstein was called up to serve in the front line, and he didn't return to the engineering school until the Bolsheviks ceased fire in 10. 19 18, at the height of the civil war, Eisenstein joined the red army and worked as a technician in the engineering corps. His father joined in.
In the army, Eisenstein continued to draw pictures and cartoons, decorated the bodies of propaganda trains that traveled all over the country, and participated in the production of local stage plays in various cities. Naturally, he was ordered to organize and produce stage plays at the front.
/kloc-in the autumn of 0/920, Eisenstein was dismissed and returned to Moscow. He began to study Japanese in the People's College and left the People's College after Porter entered the Central Workers' Theatre. In Porter Kurt Theatre, he directed the set design and taught in the director's studio. From 65438 to 0920, he worked in the workers' theatre of the first proletarian cultural association in Moscow. As an artist and director, he participated in the performance of The Mexican, a drama adapted from Jack London's novel.
192 1 ~ 1922 entered the senior director class directed by Meierkholid. 1922, the first programmatic aesthetic declaration "Variety Montage" was published in the magazine "Left Art Front", which caused a long-term debate and had a far-reaching impact on the development of the whole film art. Unlike Kuleshov's concept of montage, Eisenstein believed that the essence of montage was the conflict between different elements. These elements are specially selected to produce certain effects, and this conflict will produce new synthesis. This strengthening effect is far from being achieved by traditional dramatic techniques. Eisenstein's thoughts and methods imply that the director plays a supreme role in film creation, while the role of the actor is reduced to only a reproduction type or prototype.
Eisenstein turned to the film industry in 1924, and his first film, Strike (1925), was regarded as "the first real proletarian film" by Pravda. He used "juggling montage", mass scenes, actor types and location shooting to replace the general "plot", individual protagonists, star performances and scenery in previous films, which reflected his documentary style. The movie Battleship potemkin (1925) further developed the ideological theme and aesthetic principles of Strike. This film has created a comprehensive character image that pushes history forward. A series of scenes such as the stone lion and Odessa steps in the film have become the most famous immortal classics in the world film history. The success of Battleship potemkin lies not only in the complete presentation of Eisenstein's montage concept, but also in the rich image elements, metaphors, motif series, the formal construction of pure music and the dialectical thinking of formal concepts. Even today, a hundred years later, this film still has unparalleled artistic value. Perhaps, just like the stone lion standing up by montage in the film, its position in the film history will never waver. At the 1958 Brussels International Film Festival, Battleship potemkin was rated as the best film in 12 since its appearance.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the October socialist revolution, he was commissioned to film October. In this film, he applied the principle of rational film. It not only reproduces a series of events from February 19 17 to June 10, but also reveals the significance of these events. 1950, the film returned to the world screen with the music of Shostakovich. After 1928, the film "General Route" interrupted by "October" was completed and released with the title of "New and Old" (1929) after revision. This is the first Soviet film showing rural cooperation.
1929- 1932, visiting Europe and America with the director's assistant photographer ккгввв. He shot a short film "Sentimental Music" (1930) in France and tried the counterpoint of sound and picture. 1932, with the support of American writer U. Sinclair, he went to Mexico to shoot the epic film Long Live Mexico, which runs through Mexico's 2000-year history. In this film, he explored the movement, rhythm and structure of a single-shot picture. The 80,000-meter film of this film was never sent to Moscow before Eisenstein died. Many people edited 10 movies based on its information, such as Mexican Storm and Carnival of Miserables, which were shown all over the world. Until 1979, with the efforts of all parties, more than 60,000 meters of films were concentrated in Moscow, which was edited into a complete film by Alexander Love, a famous director and Eisenstein's assistant, and won the honorary gold medal at the 65438-0979 Moscow International Film Festival.
After returning to China from 65438 to 0932, he taught in the director department of the Soviet National Film Academy in Moscow, and his director internship course method laid the foundation for film director teaching.
He filmed Moby Dick Grassland in 1935. When he filmed alexander nevsky (1938), he linked the narrative structure of the film with ancient legends and folk stories, interwoven the image processing of the film with ancient Russian murals and architectural art, and combined it with Plokofiev's music by counterpoint or correspondence. Among them, the battle of ice lake has become a classic in the history of world movies. The three episodes of Ivan the Terrible (Episode I and Episode II, 1945, Episode III unfinished) is the last film he directed. In the interpretation of Ivan the Terrible, he drew inspiration from Pushkin's historical drama Boris Godunov, while in the structure, he borrowed and surpassed the experience of world classic artists. These films, especially the scene of the banquet and the montage of debauchery in the second episode, made it one of the highest movies in the world and made great contributions to the development of film art. However, under the historical conditions at that time, these films were criticized, the negatives of the white grassland were destroyed and Ivan the Terrier was banned.
Eisenstein's film theory has done a lot of pioneering research in the fields of film overall structure, montage, sound and picture framework, single-shot picture structure, color and film history. In addition, his works on the nature of artistic passion, artistic methods and acceptance psychology also occupy a particularly important position in his theoretical heritage. The Soviet Union published the Essays of Eisenstein (6 volumes); The film circles all over the world attach great importance to his artistic theory.
Eisenstein is one of the four giants in the early silent film era in the world, the father of Russian film and the pioneer of world film. Eisenstein wrote a magnificent chapter in the history of the world with his magnificent works. What has a far-reaching influence on later generations is that he developed and formed the montage theory first put forward by Griffith. Griffith only regards montage as a narrative means, while Eisenstein creates an artistic conception, conveys a feeling, pays attention to revealing the inner meaning of the picture, and regards montage as a unique aesthetic principle of film art. Eisenstein is one of the founders of montage theory in film science and is recognized as the first film theorist in the world.
