Photographic tone software

Hello, everyone, I am a senior. Share practical PS retouching tips.

In this issue, I will continue to share with you a series of tutorials on Raw color matching of cameras. Camera Raw is a built-in filter plug-in for PS, referred to as ACR.

With the increasing dependence of photographers on the later period in recent years, Adobe continues to expand the functions of ACR. At present, the latest version of ACR has quite complete functions, which can complete all the preprocessing work of a photo. It is almost the same as Lightroom, another professional digital photography post-color software of Adobe. When ACR meets, it is Lightroom.

This issue focuses on sharing with you the principle and usage of the color separation tool in ACR palette. Mastering the ACR "color separation" tool can also bring out shocking colors.

order

Generally speaking, for most photos, the "Separate Tone" function is rarely used for adjustment.

So we seldom see the skills of using partials on the internet.

But occasionally using this function can make some special photos very beautiful.

In this panel, Gao Fancha's photos are presented in bright and dark colors to achieve beautiful color effects.

What is tone separation?

The color separation function in ACR is divided into three parts, namely hue and saturation of highlights; Hue and saturation of shadow; And the balance adjustment of highlights and shadows.

By default, the hue is red. When the slider points to a hue value (such as red), drag the saturation value, and the highlight or shadow part of the photo will turn red.

Let me show you the function of color separation in the simplest and most direct way.

1. Make a gray stripe pattern with gradient filter.

Firstly, the brightness value of HSB is used to distinguish the dark part from the bright part of the photo.

PS open a photo and use the eyedropper tool to absorb the color. You can check the HSB value through the color sample, where B represents the brightness value, and different brightness values represent the light-dark relationship of the photo.

Brightness 0 is black.

Brightness: greater than 0 and less than 10%, dark.

Brightness: 10%-90%, which is an intermediate tone.

Brightness: 90%- less than 100%, which is a bright spot.

Brightness: 100%, white

Highlights:

When we drag the saturation slider under the highlight, from 25-50-75- 10, we can see that the bright tone of gray stripes turns red and thicker, while the dark part and highlight part have little change.

This shows that the hue separation tool has a great influence on the middle hue when changing the high light saturation value, and it weakens with the increase of the bright and dark value.

So are other colors.

Shadow:

When we drag the saturation slider under the shadow, from 25-50-75- 10, we can see that the color of the dark part in the middle of the gray stripe turns red and thicker, but the dark part and the highlight part have little change.

This shows that when the color separation tool changes the shadow saturation value, it has a great influence on the dark part of the middle tone, but has a weak influence on the dark part, middle tone and highlight.

Contrast between highlights and shadows.

You can set the corresponding color according to the actual needs, just drag the slider of hue, which can be yellow, green, cyan, blue and so on. You can select all the colors on the color circle.

Balance:

Between the highlight and shadow option groups, there is also a "Balance" parameter, which is used to adjust the ratio of highlight and shadow.

Drag the balance slider to the left to make the rendering of bright tones occupy a larger proportion of the picture; Conversely, dragging the slider to the right can make the rendering of dark tones occupy a larger proportion.

Summary: By separating tones, we can render colors to highlights or shadows of photos, and we can control the saturation of rendered colors and the size of the areas affected by colors (except pure black and pure white).

In the case of the third issue of HSL Depth Analysis, Contrast Tone of Cold and Warm in Shallow Sea, the operation of separating tones and adding cyan tones in the dark part of waves is used.

It should be noted that when the color separation panel is actually used, it must be aimed at Gao Fancha photos. If the contrast of the photo is not large enough, the adjustment effect is poor. Only when the contrast is large, highlights and shadows can be easily distinguished, and the rendering effect will be more ideal.

Single tone integrated application case

After understanding the function of color separation, you can find some photos to try the effect. Architectural photography using separated tone processing;

Natural scenery treated with independent tones:

As you can see, after tone separation and adjustment, the higher the saturation, the more uniform the tone of the picture, with two colors: highlight and shadow.

Therefore, the tone separation function can make the photos form a unified tone, and it will not be chaotic and unfocused because the colors are too complicated.

Tone separation function can unify the tones of a batch of photos and make a group of photos look more like a series of works.

Separating tones can also stylize photos. When you use high saturation in tone separation, it makes photos have more beautiful colors and more artistic visual effects.

On the left, I use a tone with low saturation, and on the right, I use a tone with high saturation.

When we look at photos, we always prefer photos with more uniform colors.

This also explains why film and film filters are still very popular even though we have entered the digital age.

Because the film has a certain color separation effect, different brands and models of film have different interpretations of color, which is why it is so popular.

In the digital age, the color reproduction of the camera is more in line with what the naked eye can see on the spot. Although it is more real, it lacks the flavor of the film.

Finally, I will give you a little trick to use hue separation. When dragging the hue slider, hold down the Alt key at the same time, and you can see the rendering preview effect of the hue value on the photo in the current preview window.

When the tone slider stays at the tone position you want to render, adjust the saturation value to get satisfactory results.

Finally, I want to say that although the ACR series of color matching tutorials are aimed at the computer version, these color theory knowledge can also be applied to retouching of mobile apps, such as lightroom, VSCO, Filter Master and so on. These retouching apps have built-in powerful color adjustment tools, which can help you quickly adjust colors on your mobile phone, share them with friends, or forward them to others.

Ok, that's all for the separation sound. If it helps you, remember to like it and forward it! If you have any questions about this question, you can leave a message at the bottom, and the senior will answer them for you at the first time.
