Explanatory writing is an article genre with explanation as its main expression. The explanation of objective things or abstract things is helpful for people to have a scientific understanding of the shape, structure, nature, types, causes, functions, relationships or concepts, characteristics, sources, evolution, similarities and differences of things. The discussion center is distinct and prominent, and the article is scientific, coherent and vivid.

It explains the characteristics, essence and regularity of things by revealing concepts. Explanatory text generally introduces the shape, structure, category, relationship and function of things, and explains the principle, significance, characteristics and evolution of things. Descriptive words are very practical, including advertisements, instructions, abstracts, tips, rules, articles of association, comments and so on.

Some explanatory texts are in chronological order, and some are in spatial order; Some are written from the phenomenon to the essence, and some are written from the main to the secondary; Some are explained in the order of technological process, while others are explained in the order of nature, function and principle of things.

Description order

The common explanation sequence is as follows. Reasonable arrangement of the explanation order will help readers to master the explanation content step by step.

Time sequence: Explain things in the order of development: from morning till night, from spring to winter, from ancient times to the present, etc. Generally speaking, the object of explanation will be divided into several paragraphs according to the specific situation in chronological order and explained paragraph by paragraph. When explaining, you don't record the whole thing like running water, but extract and write the content that best highlights the characteristics of the object.

Spatial order: Explain according to the sequence of spatial transfer: from inside to outside, from top to bottom, from front to back, from left to right, from east to west, or vice versa, from outside to inside and from bottom to top. When using spatial order's explanation, we must clearly explain the shift of observation, so that the context of the article will be clear.

Logical order: Explain according to the logical relationship of things: from cause to effect, from shallow to deep, from primary to secondary, from one category to another, from general to individual, etc. Using this order of interpretation, it is not only convenient to explain the characteristics of individual things, but also helpful to reveal the relationship between various things.

Divide, summarize and properly arrange the level of explanation, so that the article is organized and readers can easily grasp the characteristics of the object of explanation.
