Nanputuo Temple, known as the "Millennium Ancient Temple", is located at the foot of Wulaofeng Mountain and adjacent to Xiamen University. It was built in the Tang Dynasty and is one of the famous ancient temples in southern Fujian. Mainly dedicated to Guanyin, it is located at the southern foot of Putuo Mountain, one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, so it is called Nanputuo. Nanputuo is a historical and cultural collection with a long history in southern Fujian. The building, which consists of the Heavenly King Hall, the Hall of Ursa Major, the Hall of Great Compassion, the Pavilion of Tibetan Scripture, the left and right wing rooms, and the Bell and Drum Tower, is magnificent, with Buddhist characteristics and the majesty of "boundless Buddha nature". There is a tourist shopping souvenir store in the temple, where you can buy all kinds of items related to Buddhism. Guanyin's birthday falls on February 19, June 19 and September 19 of the lunar calendar every year. At that time, a grand event was held in the temple, and many good men and women were seen holding incense and praying for health, wealth and happiness. Even in normal times, there is an endless stream of people, mostly domestic and foreign tourists and local believers come to pay homage, and the incense is flourishing and famous far and near. After worshipping Buddha, you can take a short rest and climb directly. Climb to the top of the mountain and overlook the landscape of Xiamen University and the surrounding scenery of Xiamen Port.

In recent years, overseas donations and government grants have built new mountain gates, Douluduoyuan, Alaruochu, Sumitomo, Taixutai and many tomb towers. The new posture of the ancient temple is far superior to the old view. In Nanputuo Temple, visitors can also taste the unique and famous Nanputuo vegetarian dishes.

Minnan Buddhist College, located on the side of Nanputuo Temple, was founded in 1925 and enjoys a long-standing reputation at home and abroad. It is the cradle of carrying forward Buddhism and cultivating Buddhist disciples. At present, there are many students studying here.

Five ancient peaks cross the sky in extraordinary style.

The five old peaks behind Nanputuo Temple stand on the seashore of Xiamen Port, spanning the sky, with extraordinary style. Five hills rise into the sky, surrounded by white clouds sometimes. From a distance, it seems that five old people with white hair and beard are looking forward to the vast sea. This is one of the five sights of Lao Lingxiao and one of the eight sights of Xiamen.

The word "Five Old Peaks" is engraved on the stone slope, and the word "Buddha" is engraved on the boulder, which is more than four meters high and three meters wide. This word was written by Hui Zhen in the first period of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1869). On the left side of the "Buddha"-shaped rock, there are tombs of the monks Jingfeng and Shen Xi who have made great contributions to Nanputuo Temple donated by overseas Chinese. Passing through the stone path on the left, there is the tomb tower of Zhuanfeng monk. Turning to the lower side of the monk's tomb tower is the ruins of Zhao Pu Temple. Zhao Pu Temple was built by Chen Qi in Tang Dynasty, with caves as rooms. On the cave wall of the temple, there is the word "flying spring" inscribed by Emperor Taizong of Ming Dynasty. Halfway up the mountain, there is a pocket leading to the pioneers, which has been renovated. There are Taixu Master Tower and Taixu Master Memorial Pavilion nearby. If you go deeper, you can also see that the five old peaks are covered with acacia trees, which are called "acacia trees in Taiwan Province". If you climb straight, the beautiful campus scenery of Xiamen University and the scenery of Xiamen Port will be unobstructed.
