What is metonymy rhetoric?

It refers to borrowing a name that is closely related to someone or something instead of directly naming it. This figure of speech is also called "renaming". Among them, the replacement is called borrowing, and the replacement is called ontology.

There are three main ways of metonymy:

First, feature generation ontology.

It refers to replacing the name of the ontology with the characteristics and signs of the borrowing body.

For example:

(1) Kites are colorful and varied, including eagles, parrots, cranes and centipedes. ...

(2) "It turns out that your suppository has met a kind of good luck. Naturally, the disease is completely cured; No wonder Lao Shuan smiles all day. " The gray beard said as he walked towards Uncle Kang. (Lu Xun's medicine)

Second, proper names generate ontologies

It refers to using the special name of a typical person or thing instead of the name of the ontology as a borrowing body. For example:

(3) Three cobblers make a Zhuge Liang.

(4) If you kill a Li Gongpu, millions of Li Gongpu will stand up! (Wen Yiduo's last speech)

Third, concrete generation abstraction.

Refers to replacing related abstract things with concrete things. For example:

(5) The people of China, under the leadership of China Production Party, defeated the imperialist rule in China with millet and rifles.

(6) The model is not a model. From west to east, the west eats pancakes and the east drinks porridge. (Zhao Shuli, Comrade Lao Yang)

Fourth, the whole is generated locally.

Is to replace the ontology with the representative part of things. For example:

(7) In the past few years, I failed to recite half a sentence of The Power of Literary Records, which I read as a child. (Lu Xun's "A Little Thing")

(8) It is one of the eight points for attention in the three major disciplines not to take a needle and a thread from the masses.

The difference between metonymy and metonymy

Metonymy focuses on the relevance of things. Without the specific language environment, there is still a direct connection between borrowing and ontology. Metonymy focuses on the similarity of things. Without the specific language environment, there is no longer any connection between borrowing and metaphor. For example:

(1) Sir, can't you give me cash, Yuan Shikai? (Ye Shengtao's "Indiscriminate Three Five Doors")

(2) Malicious critics gallop on the tender land, which is of course a very pleasant thing; However, it is the tender seedlings-ordinary seedlings and talented seedlings that suffer. (Before Genius by Lu Xun)

In the above example (1), Yuan Shikai is the borrower, not the silver dollar with Yuan Shikai's head on it. There is an obvious correlation between the two, which is metonymy. In example (2), the metaphor of "tender seedling" is used instead of the ontology of "genius and ordinary people", and the two are only similar, which is a metaphor.
