Gao Nianci, director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Taipei Liguandu Hospital, pointed out that shoulder and neck pain is a common problem, among which rotator cuff disease, also known as Fifty Shoulder, Frozen Shoulder or Adhesive Shoulder Cystitis, is caused by friction and inflammation between acromion and soft tissues such as supraspinous muscle, infraspinous muscle, teres minor, and tendon and ligament of subscapular muscle.

Many shoulder diseases will limit the movement of the shoulder joint, but it is characteristic that patients with 5 shoulders, especially female patients, have difficulty in buttoning their underwear. When measuring, the active and passive abduction of the shoulder joint is usually less than 1 degrees, or the external rotation angle is less than 5% compared with the opposite side.

Dr. Gao Nianci said that conservative treatment is the main treatment, including rehabilitation and taking drugs. If the effect is not good, steroid or hyaluronic acid with better lubrication and maintenance can be injected into the acromion capsule. If these treatments are still ineffective, or the rotator cuff is diagnosed as broken by arthrography, ultrasound and nuclear magnetic resonance, surgical treatment should be considered.

At present, the Department of Health has approved the use of hyaluronic acid injection to treat rotator cuff disease of shoulder, which can effectively relieve pain for people suffering from joint adhesion for a long time. The mechanism of hyaluronic acid can not only inhibit pain, but also protect connective tissues such as cartilage, synovium and ligament, inhibit cartilage degeneration, prevent tendon adhesion, improve the elasticity and viscosity of joint fluid, and reduce joint load.
