This film tells the true story of Frida Kahlo (Sal Heyek, played by salma hayek), a 20th century Mexican painter and idol, and reproduces the eternal love between her and her husband diego rivera (played by Alfred Molina), as well as their position in Mexican society.

The characters in the film are diego rivera's rival in Mexican art world, David Uroz (antonio banderas); Famous Italian photographer TinaModotti (ashley judd); Nelson rockefeller (Edward Harrison Norton) signed a contract with diego rivera to paint murals in the corridors of Rockefeller Center, but the contract was cancelled because there was a portrait in the mural. There are other figures in their social circle: leader and exiled revolutionary Leon Trotsky (geoffrey rush); And French fresco Jean Charlot, painter Pablo ohiggins, famous Mexican sports activist and composer Silvestre Revueltas, and Edward Weston, one of the most influential photographers in the 20th century in the United States.

As a great artist, Frieda Carroll is also a bisexual and socialist. However, a tram accident brought her lifelong pain. She had a leg amputated and had to live with her abusive husband. Excessive drugs and alcohol finally ended Frieda Carroll's life at the age of 47.
