Putram Coal-fired Power Station Project is a credit assistance project of China. This is by far the largest economic and trade cooperation project between China and Sri Lanka, and also the largest construction project in Sri Lanka's history. Putram coal-fired power station is located in Tiya Peninsula, Kapi Province, on the northwest coast of Sri Lanka, 30 kilometers north of Colombo, with a total installed capacity of 900,000 kilowatts. The first phase of the power station project has an installed capacity of 300,000 kilowatts and a total investment of 455 million US dollars.

On August 6, 2007, Putram coal-fired power station started construction.
